Fogs turning themselves off?! |
|
May seem like a dumb question but.....
Was driving down towards Eindhoven today in pretty heavy fog. Headlights on automatic and 'on', front and rear fogs on, manually. Suddenly noticed as I entered a slighly lighter patch of low cloud that all lights were off .
I can appreciate that the slight brightening of the ambient light (only slight, it was still foggy with view limited to between 150 and 200 meters or so) might trip the automatic sensor to turn off the headlights, but would that also turn off the fogs
I reset the headlights to 'on' (not auto) and reset the fogs to on and continued, albeit with a frown replacing the permasmile.
Comments appreciated (even if it is RTFM ) (mine is in Dutch and is a to plough through).

Didn't think you could put the fogs on while in auto ...you have to switch them back to manual on and then pull ...no ? 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

No, it didn't seem to be a problem.
Dash info clearly indicating 'auto' lights and headlights activated before I switched on the fogs. All the indicators then shown together on the instrument panel.

Your lights worked exactly as they should, in actual fact ambient light levels are higher in fog because the light is more diffused. Lesson learned (for us all, that is) lights on manual if you are relying on the fogs. 2011 D4 Landmark, Mini Cooper SD Clubman, Range Rover Vogue SE

More like the D4 is, "too clever by half" (an Aussie cliche which probably won't translate to English, much less Dutch ) in this instance. Thankfully we don't get fog here. Hi Sticks
The fog was intermittent. Fairly dense generally with lighter patches. So I didn't want to faff turning the fogs on and off.
Anyway learned my lesson, will use manual headlights in the fog in future.
