Software Version?

Hi All,

Newbie question im afraid...

How do I find out what S/W version my D3 is at?

Unfortunately it's only fully visible to the dealers diagnostic kit

There isn't one version, each ECU has it's own software level, the diagnostics will check each module against the latest release of the composite software disc

As 10forcash says, only the dealer can say what software version is on your car. But the version is not too important because any visit to the service centre could mean that a patch(es) is/are applied. The cumulative effect of any patches could easily match a later version so version is not so important as getting the right patches. The dealer will still apply a version if necessary.

In another post, I mentioned that my car had a suspension fault register so off to sevice it went. When I picked it up I was informed that they had also applied a transmission patch. I was wrong it actually was a transfer case patch.

I mentioned to the service manager that my transfer case doesn't get much (if any) of a workout at the moment. He said that the start up diagnostics checked ALL electronics including (I think) a pump in the transfer case.

So now on I might just wait until I hear the familiar 'boing' before driving off after starting the engine just to let the diagnostics do all that they are supposed to do...

* first ran a bearing (design failure in original engine)
* second had a failure of the water outlet on top of the engine (pls check yours)

Mmmmâ€¦â€¦

I found it best to wait until you hear the â€œbongâ€ before starting too, regardless of the need for glow plugs.

It certainly seems to result in a much more error free drive. 8)

The latest sw does not 'require' the bong before go routine by the way.

But then again... once in the habit why not ? By the time you got your belt on and check the lippy it will have bonged anyway
