Knock felt through steering wheel |
|
Hi after some ideas where to look, I live at the end of a lane that is moderately rough, recently I have notices a knock thought the steering wheel when I drive along this.
I had an assistant rock the steering wheel and the knock can be felt in both front wheels, the steering rack balljoints both feel ok and I am after suggestions where to continue looking ?
Its more pronounced when you hold the road wheel and rock the steering wheel than from the steering wheel (if that makes any sense).

Lower steering column assembly is one of the possible culprits
It was on rough lanes that mine became most apparent "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt" ?.....what rubbish...

Have a look at this thread, new lower steering bush sorted my knocking out. Any play in this is amplified to the steering wheel. After I had all of my bushes done this was the final cure for all knocks from the front end.

Oohh the fun never ends, as much as I love my D3...
So found the source of the sound effects, n/s front wheel bearing failed on the way home tonight, fortunately i noticed the sound as i was pulling off so stopped and then had to make the decision if i risk the 3 mile drive home...
Managed to strip the hub out in 30mins. so tomorrow i need to get a hub asap.
