Cannot believe anyone would NOT want a V8
however, some of us have to be "sensible" - wife, work, wife, money, wife, whatever, wife - and therefore we diesel.
Love the D3, jealous of all the V8 owners...... <*(((<<

I noticed on your gallery a couple of pics with snow chains fitted to your D3 - could you give us some info on the type of chain and the wheel tyre combo that they fit upto. Any problems with them rubbing? Thanks for the info

I have had the V8 3.5 years, and, WOW!!! Love it! Hate the fuel consumption in town though. Must say, I did roughly 2500 km last week in Nmibia with my distributor in his Toyota Hilux double cab 3.0l diesel auto, and me thinks fuel consumtion is as per my Disco 3 (+- 12 litre per 100 km!). Difference was, we were broken when we got out the toy, whereas when me honey and I did 7500 km through Namibia & Botswana a while ago and was more than OK
Diesel in Africa is rubbish, good filters or not. You will not see 250K on the clock before changing injectors, turbo etc. You cannot do this DIY. I changed my sparkplugs (at a premium) on 80K km, cleaned the aircleaner and mass air flow sensor, and, voila, good as new!
PS, did I tell you about the crazy exhaust system I had fitted. LR Bedfordview mechanics will drop everything to work / test drive my Disco. Apparently sounds better than a screamer Live Life, do Africa!

Viper in Boksburg does it, they even fit the sensor so the engine managment light does not come on.
I was thinking of getting it done, but havent fully decided.
Heine,
Where did you get yours done.

I had my complete system done by Abel Dos Santos, owner of Viper Performance Exhausts in Kempton Park. He replaced the whole system from the headers on with a twin pipe big bore system, with balancing tubes. Cannot stop smiling. Growls like a big cat, hence the name Growler (Knorpot).
Highly recomended Live Life, do Africa!

Mine was very loud when I took delivery, but good old Abel sorted it chop-chop by fitting a huge centre box. Still loudish, but acceptable.
Maybe we should start the very exclusive de-cat modified V8 club? We can then wake the whole neighbourhood on start-up
The lambda sensors occasionally show up a fault code, but no EM lights, so no problem (so far). The mini 'cats' seem to do the trick. Live Life, do Africa!

The sensors stay standard, but the cats are removed and replaced with very small cats 'bolted' onto the exhaust, tricking the ECU to think the cats are in place. This is done for the socondary sensors (4 are present in the system - 2 per bank, one before cat & one after). It is the one after the cat that is being tricked because of the EUIV spec demanding emission issues to show up as faults. The car should theoretically not go into limp mode if the cats are disfunctional, but it depends on the system software programming /age.
The sensor only measures the oxygen %, and if it falls within the parameter then the ECU is kept happy. And me.
Heine, we should really get together over a frostie and compare notes, and invite Baden to Faultmate our cabs. Time, jeesh, time... Live Life, do Africa!
