Rear Wheel Getting Hot ???
Hi All, aplogies for the long read.
My Drivers side rear hub is getting very warm, IR Thermometer shows all the others at 35deg and this one at 88deg after a good run.
Today I stripped the caliper and disc off and had a good poke around.
The Parking brake pads were covered in rusty dust and showed no signs of dragging, cleaned and adjusted to be on the safe side.
I drove the brake piston out and looked for signs of corrosion or pitting, it looked pretty good, I found one minor pit, about the size of a pin head, my finger nail would just catch. Itook the high spot off with 4000 grit paper and polished the piston back up.
The piston rotated and drove back in without any great problems.
Next stage.. Whilst jacked up I checked the wheel was rotating freely, lowered the car and drove for a couple of miles (The epb wasn't on at any time), only braked VERY gently twice from about 10mph.
Got back, all other hubs at 16deg and this one at 35deg!!!! ARGHH.
There is a small ammount of play in the wheel with hands at 12 and 6 o clock, nothing at 3 and 9. The play is still there with epb engaged and unwilling assistant standing on the brakes.
So the question is...which first..wheel bearing or caliper???? Or anything else I've missed?
Thanks

Had this on 3 calipers over 18 months, all replaced. Just waiting for the 4th to go. Noticed heat after vibration when driving, brake disc glowing at one point!

EPB stuck caused this on mine, not fully disengaging, wheel got hot enough to pop the centercap out.

Just had this problem on mine on the exact same wheel. Also had vibrations, and it turned out (thanks to diagnosis help from all on here) that the park brake shoes had been binding and causing the extra heat. The end result was that the shoes delaminated and the broken pieces of lining spinning around in the drum were what caused the vibrations.
New shoes, solved the problem, but they aren't cheap. £50 per side. Incidentally, at first glance it would seem that they are only available from LR, but I found out you can get the very same parts from Britpart, but I don't know if the price is any less.D3 TDV6 HSE 2008 Buckingham Blue (current)

sounds like caliper. had the same on mine - the caliper could be pushed back in by hand but didnt move on its own. there was no sign of corrosion etc.

Hi everybody, i had this problem about six months ago, one side rear wheel getting very hot, it had worn the pad away nearly down to metal. so had two new discs and pads fitted, the mechanic noticed the rear flexi brake hose was collapsing/soft, he said it was causing the caliper to hold some pressure, and the pads to bind, new hose and it was perfect, now, four months on, the other side has started the same tricks, so new brake hose on order. In a land Rover the other vehicle is the crumple zone.
