I assume that the Military is the same as civvy on this. I put my blokes threough C+E and they get B+E by default. So if you have any intention of going onto the big stuff then that's the way to go.

Not sure what "G" is but "H" is tracked vehicle. Or it was when I was learning to drive 432 and CVR(T). Surprising thing was, when I did my tracks licence you could go from nothing to drivng a tank. With no B entitlement. No road sense. Thankfully now it's all changed and you need the B before you do the H

That's right, if you take the "higher" catagory, you'll get the lower one automatically. Likewise with C1+E (107 code next to it), if you then take the test for C1+E (without the code, ie Gross mass of 12000kg) you'll get the other catagories updated for passenger carrying vehicles Thumbs Up

I keep the heavy stuff as it's my plan B incase I get made redundant or something. Have used it to go on the agencies while I find another job.

Medical I have no issue with as I have a class 2 aviation medical every 2 years.

Nooooooooo. For the love of everything holy, are they going to mess with my bike licence as well? Suppose I'll have to do no end of stupid courses to maintain that as well now.

Perhaps I can help as I have extensive knowledge on B & B+E licence towing issues

If it is the model in the above link then it has a GVW of 2708 kgs
Any trailer above a plated MAM weight of 792 kgs would require a B+E licence

For B licence towing -
The GVW of the towing vehicle added to the plated MAM of the trailer must not be more than 3500
The Trailer plated MAM must not be more than hte unladen/kerb weight of the towing vehicle.

Drivers with a B only licence can go directly to LGV C and then LGV C+E

The driver CPC is only for those who are driving LGVs commrecially

The Driver CPC and the driving licence are seperate issues

Any LGV driver who lets the medical lapse can simply pass the D4 medical at any time in the future and get back the LGV categories

Any LGV driver who decides not to get the driver CPC by the required date can, at any time in the future, complete all 35 hours of the periodic dcpc to then be allowed to drive LGVs commercially

Those drivers who do not have any LGV category on their licence and want to drive LGVs commercially will have to pass the initial driver cpc for LGV and that will last for 5 years from the pass date

I was a LGV instructor from 2005 to 2008 and when this Driver CPC came out I made an in-depth investigation into what exactly was required so my knowledge on this is very good

It isn't GVW of the towing vehicle, it is the MAM of the towing vehicle plus the MAM of the trailer must be 3500KG or less. I was doing it a couple of years ago and gave up as I now have no need for towing.

MAM and GVW are exactly the same thing but GVW is used for the vehicle and MAM is used for the trailer - I don't know why but thats what is done

Just think of the safety issue amongst other things Mum and Dad have B + E on grand dads rights and have NEVER towed. Would you want them to supervise someone who has not got a towing licence?

We went through this and there was a law passed 06/07 time which basically says you can not supervise a provisional driver if you have not PASSED the actual test yourself and then there is a 2 year(?) period after passing the relevant test.

YES it can be extremely difficult to get 100% accurate easily understood information.

It is 100% legal

Many got confused with the new laws that came into force in April 2010

Those new rules only affected vocational categoreies and B+E is not vocational

The categories affected are C1 C1+E D1 & D1+E for those who got them free with a pre 1997 licence
