generally salt crystals or road dirt are the problem, water or water moisture will clear itself after a couple of minutes

I had a similar problem (constant tone from rear sensors and light flashing on dash). Just had wiring loom in rear bumper replaced (under warranty) but problem still ongoing. Car booked in again to have all four rear sensors replaced as they are still showing faults and have been thoroughly cleaned. It appears the salt on the roads and the huge amount of snow we had here has not helped. Can't get the new sensors under warranty so I have to pay about £460!

CJS - not sure what you are having done for the £460 for 4 sensors. I had one replaced yesterday in Edinburgh for £66 incl fitting. So for 4 this would be less than £280 (assuming no savings in fitting). They identified a fault on Monday and fitted the sensor yesterday whilst I waited.

I usually have to constant tone when there's been any sort of heavy rain fall, but once driving and getting a bit of a wind over the car, they sort themselves out. Yet i've never heard them do this on my Dads 54 plate.

Caterham thanks for your info. I have a quote from Pentland Land Rover of £459 incl. VAT and now one from Stratstone of £345 incl. VAT. These are the only two dealers in Edinburgh so it appears the cost of replacing all four does not relate to the cost of replacing just one. Anyway your comment made me look at another quote and there is quite a difference between the two. Thanks.
