Looking at Buying a Disco 3 (Please Help) Advice Needed

Hello All Rolling Eyes

As you may have noticed I am new to this site and glad to see many people on it as I am looking for some advice.

I’m currently looking at treating myself to a Disco 3 disco 3 (05 / 06 plate) for my Birthday in the next month or two. Just been doing some research and looked at various review sites: - Some say YES and some say NO . (Most are YES’S)

Before you all start booing I currently drive a Honda Accord car and I now fancy a 4x4 (as I’ve always wanted one since a kid) and many of my friends say that I will regret getting a Disco.

My research in joining this site is to find out:

- Reliability
- Running Costs
- Problems I most likely have / may face generally with the car
- Maintenance Service costs etc

Any advice would be appreciated . Many Thanks

Ash 8)

Forget what your friends will say, its your decision, and besides they will be the 1st to wanna join you on a jaunt, or if this weather returns a tow or two.

What you need to decide is spec, price range, mileage. All colours look cool except the gold one Laughing , make sure the dealer stamps are there, or its fully serviced.

It's a complex machine for sure, if you are looking at 05/06 then factor in the price of a good after market warranty as repairs can be pricey. I have not found them any more unreliable than any other car really but things to watch out for are electronic glitches that throw error messages on the dash, on the test drive it should run very smoothly with no obvious knocks or rattles from the suspension and power should be smooth with no black smoke and no jerky gear changes. the electronic handbrake can be problematic (more of an issue on manual cars) so check it engages and disengages with no screeches. Check air suspension raises and lowers ok and also look for the rear hatch gas struts working loose at the base.

If you choose carefully and get the aforementioned warranty it's a great machine and you won't regret it!! Once you get into a Land Rover it is more of a way of life then just plodding round in a 'euro box'

Go for it Thumbs Up

Auto, as it also has command shift.

In response to what your money will buy, I aint sure. Mine is a 55 plate HSE, done under 40k and still its worth 19k Mr. Green

Both are great, go drive then both and make up your own mind is best Thumbs Up

(there's more than enough auto or manual threads on here already, probably best to do a search for them if you really want to see folks opinions)

Funny, our car is a 56 XS - in fact our reg is ZTE rather than ZTN! We paid £16k from a LR dealer with 80k on it in October last year. It has been a cracking car and, while I was about to say that you should be wary of cars that seem cheap (on tha basis that there's no such thing as a free lunch, from painful experience), I can't fault our car. I have been looking at prices over the last few weeks and the car you're looking at is about 4k less than the equivalent from LR in the current market.

Good luck with whatever you get!

I spent nearly 12 months looking for a disco, I wanted to make sure I got the right one. I think if you aint test driven one then that’s where your prob is. If you drive that xs from the trader there is a good chance you’ll want to buy it. Not because its any better but because its the 1st you've driven and that’s what they do to you. As the guys on here call it a permigrin Very Happy . you'll understand when you get in it. You will be very shocked how smooth and perfect the ride is. If you can I'd be tempted to go for less miles. Mine has high ish miles and that’s the only regret I have. Bush wear is common and can cause some irritating noises.

good luck in your search
 Current: D3 commercial

Past: but not forgotten D3 HSE x2, 5 TD5 disco2's, 1 200tdi disco1, 2 300tdi disco1 one of which was a commercial, Off roader with a rather large spec, ARB's and big travel suspension to name a few.
Pajero SWB 2.8 for off road playdays

Cheers Dickydisco

Yes I am in my early days of my Search / Purchase and Yes you are right I haven't test drove one yet.

I shall be test driving them from next week.
I will be very cautious when buying as I am aware of Sales tactics etc.

Cheers again
