United Kingdom 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE Manual Java BlackDiscovery 3

Hi Ash

Mines a 54 plate base spec manual, and I love it. Other than EGR valves(sinch to fit blanking plates) I have had no other problems whatsoever. As previous posts have said, one ride will be enough and I am sure you will be smitten. Yes, like any other car you can have glitches, but the support and guidance this site offers is a great help.

Good luck

Matt

like I said, good luck with it. Oh I went for a HSE because a car like the disco is good in any form but I wanted all the blanks on the dash to have buttons in and all the little extras everyone else has which i always long for, well now I dont because I have them and it makes a good car great.

Hi Ash,

I know exacly wht you are going through as I had similar emotions just before Xmas. I had been thinking about getting a Range Rover of Disco for about 18 months. Looked at a few Disco's but didnt really get anywhere because Mrs JDO really preferred the Range. Anyway, long story short she had a change of heart and accepted that the 7 seats might be handy and actively started looking herself (result!). We found a 2007 SE at Stratstone and trundled off to have a look. Anyway, drove it and wasnt impressed, just didnt feel right for a 3 year old car, we felt we were getting rid of an immaculate 3 year old Honda CRV to get a scruffy 3 year old D3. Sitting next to it was an 8 month old XS and guess what, its now mine and I absolutey love it. I had reservations about reliability but the trade press and sites like this give it glowing reports so as others have said, go or it. Just get the right one...

ATB Jon.

Off Topic DickyDisco You can never have all the gadgets on a D3 - I've got an HSE too but have you seen the threads about heated steering wheels and flappy paddle gear changes? Wink

Back to the original question: Get a warranty, and if not buying from an LR dealer, ideally a warranty that lets you go to an LR dealer or independent expert to get any problems fixed. They're not really unreliable, but some repairs are expensive (turbochargers, clutches for example) and others that seem worrying are cheap if done by someone who can quicky diagnose the problem.

I hope you'll love the D3. We all do. When you've got one, come along to one of the events (look out for offroad driver training to begin with) and you'll be amazed at how capable and how much fun it is!

Hi Ash,

I'm also new to this forum. I picked up my D3 yesterday from Marshalls in Cambridge.
It's a immaculate SE TDV6 2005, one owner with 18,200 on the clock. it's a manual, which I perfer.
I know it early days but I'm really pleased with it so far. Also if you buy from a LR dealer, don't forget to ask
for the 'landrover experience' vouchers. I did, thanks to this forum.

Good luck.

you just burst my bubble. I tried to forget about them other little extras to a hse Laughing

You are right about the warranty though. Its a must. Mines going in to have some work done all through a warranty I got myself, not LR.

Ash. Look out for smoke when you put your foot down in one you test, thats an idication of EGR's or the turbo. and make sure you try and find a bumpy road to check for knocks.

Don't go saying things like that. Ours smokes like a tanker up the slip road but it's going like stink (thanks Pete:))... no hint of power problems...
