I never thought about this before but the LR supplied sump guard for one of the best offroading vehicles built "IN THE WORLD" is a piece of plastic that you can remove by reversing through a puddle

I got sick of the crappy plastic "guard"? on mine forever falling off and got a Mantec one, best way to go IMHO.
I suppose the original plastic cover does offer some very limited protection to the intercooler, but it's still a PITA when you want to access the recovery point, specially if it's up to your knees in mud. Clive

Thats what I do
Plus it's been too damn cold to put it back on Global Warming.... I'm luvvin it
Pics 125/126 might be helpful in showing how you can modify the plastic tray to allow permanent access to the eye. You can just make out the holes where the fasteners sit.
Al, look a pics 127-134, it isn't just cut, it's repositioned and extra brackets are added with the winch kit so it cutting it isn't going to help on a D3 without the kitThe End

Isn't just the section cut in Pic 126 he needs and ignore the cuts in Pic 125?
I'm guessing he just wants access to the tow eye without having to take the s**t piece of plastic off.I see no ships........
