Central Console and dash lights (intermittent fault)

Hi all, and a happy new year!

Had a bit of an on/off problem over the last few weeks with my 54 plate HSE. In the morning when I start the car up and switch on the headlights, occasionally the green centre console lights whitch illuminate all the heater controls, air con, radio etc, plus all the dashboard dials are not lit up. The radio screen, nav screen plus the two information screens next to the dials on the dash all light up bright green, but nothing else.

Each time it's done this, it suddenly lights up after about 5 or ten mins of driving. The last two mornings I've discovered that by simply rolling the dash light brightness switch up or down, it all jumps back to life instantly. Bizarre. Not a big issue now that I've found this 'fix' but I just imagine one day it will all go off and not come back on. Any ideas anyone?!!

All the best,

Rich.

My 58 plate did this the other day! I had been messing around fitting a remote FBH starter. Its not done it since. I got mine to work by flicking to main beam and back to dip.

Cheers Gareth - I just spotted your thread further down the forum. It's very odd - I did also wonder if it was something to do with the cold weather, or a battery on its way out. Found it quite comical that as soon as I moved the dash light brightness dial it all jumped back to life, two days on the trot. If yours does it again, try that one. Switching to main beam didn't bring it back on mine. The only thing I've done in the last week or so which could have caused any elec problems was jump starting another car. Who knows..... Shocked

Bumping an old topic as the search function worked!

My 54 HSE does the same as the original post. No dash lights but moving the brighten/dimmer gets them working.
Done it twice now. The sat nav screen works and the radio light ups and any orange lights on heating controls are lit but the green lights don't come on.

Any ideas?

Although the aforementioned Disco is now long gone, I remember it doing this every winter (seemed to have something to do with cold mornings - either that or I never noticed it in summer because the mornings were too bright to need/notice and dash light issues!). Never got to the bottom of it, but the roller switch always brought them back on so I never worried too much.

Wow, I miss that Disco. Whatever you do, don't chop it in for a Range Rover.

Ah, more landrover character then? Laughing

Will have the car for a few years so its going nowhere. Was curious if it was a battery issue or such as its got a new alternator fitted so that shouldn't be an issue. Shouldn't.. Laughing

I never had any battery/alternator issues in 3 years owndership so I assume it wasn't related to that. Just one of those little gremlins that adds charm!

I used to say to myself after reading about all the potential problems "if this is the only issue mine has, I'll live with it and count myself lucky".... Thumbs Up
