Hi, that sounds very unhealthy I would not run it again until you have checked the timing etc.

After searching on here and other sites, it sounds very similar to the main bearings been kaput?

Sounds a milder case of what mine had before she died. Not good.

Thanks

As above - that’s an inevitable engine failure inbound I’m afraid. That’s a rod knocking on the door waiting to open the door itself if you run it much longer.

Remove the oil filter... let it drain for an hour and cut it open.... you can see inside what you allready know, I presume it will metal particles....Best regards

Joy oh joy then . Wouldn't mind but about 4 years ago and 50k miles earlier the previous owner had all the engine rebuilt :/ new turbo, shaft everything.
Anyone got a rough idea what the cost is going to be please?
Im guessing taking the body off makes it alot easier to do but haven't got anywhere to do it really :/ seem to recall it is possible to take engine out just abit of hassle?
And yeah was serviced about 4.5k ago.

I am wondering why this noise came so suddently from one day to the next. First I would drain the oil and filter to check for metal pieces. If nothing to find I would check the timing. first the timing belt. If this is also OK, I would remove the cylinderhead covers and check valves and tappettes. And than Hope Hope Hope....

Depending on what you do....
Replacement engine from a Jag and do all the work yourself..... incl new main and big end bearings and oil pump.. 2000k on..
Outsourcing the work or refurbish your engine, I presume 5000k on...

I am am in te proces of doing the same job.... can be done without body off... general consensus is what some reliable sources told me; same amount of time/work.... “ approximately”

Can be a wrongly fitted oil filter....Best regards
