Hacking Satnav Startup Screen

I wonder if there is a way of removing the 'Agree' disclaimer screen every time you start the ignition.

I've seen some of the other hacks that are possible and wonder if there is one to do this?

Ed..... After talking to the other guys about this, I'm sure they would pay many thousands of pounds each to the winner of this hacking riddle. Wink

My parents recently bought a new Honda Civic which had a really nice brochure with some soft black rubber pages. I cut one of these to size and put it over the screen. Now I don't see it at all and when I want to use the Sat Nav I take it off!!

Works a treat......

Does the 1791 code used to disable the restrictions whilst moving remove the disclaimer page?

No... The 1791 Code is temporary and when you switch off, you loose its benefits... Thus you have to press "accept" again to enter it again... Confused

Cool, so I never have to hit the agree button again? THAT was the question, right?

No you don't have to hit that button unless you remove the nice rubber cover to use the sat nav. Although in the dark you can get a little bit of light around the edge....but not much.

Noice! Have you considered purchasing one of those nice sleeping masks? You could put that on while driving to completely block out the Nav distraction.

Tried a sleeping mask but the car kept getting stuck in convertibles as it climbed over them at traffic lights......so I have gone back to looking....no sat nav distraction though!!

Hate to break it to you guys, but I have beating my head on this for a while. I am a computer engineer that loves hacking stuff, my Disco is no exception. The files on the DVD are industry standard KIWI-W format. This in itself first gave me a lot of hope of doing something to get rid of the Agree warning.

However, the actual software the system runs, normally contained in a file called LOADER.KWI, is missing from the DVD. The reason is that the computer software is contained somewhere else in the truck. Try popping out the DVD and turning on the ignition. You will see that all of the other functions of the touch screen (Agree screen, 4x4, and Settings) are fine. It's only when you select Nav that the message comes up whining about inserting a DVD.

This means that unless we can figure out which module in the car contains the software, and then getting a hold of the WDS CD that contains the firmware, we are SOL. Even then we would have to get the patched firmware somehow into the WDS system, get a dealer or someone with a T4 to upload it, and hope it works.

I guess it's the price we pay for such a cool vehicle!

Just one question ?

If the files on the DVD are readable, would it be feasible (I don't say easy...) to write a modification which would allow us to add to the categories that the Sat-Nav knows how to read ?

I.E, would it be possible to write a program which would allow us to translate P.O.I meant for another GPS system into a file which could be burn and used instead of the regular Sat-Nav DVD ?

The idea ? To be able to know about Radar and Speed-traps...
