Towing Electrics

I managed to get a tow bar off of ebay and have got a 13pin elec kit from nick. Many thanks.

My question is over the car setting. Does anyone know if it needs doing at the dealer and what the activation involves. I have not attempted to plug in to trailer as yet but just want to be prepaired.

Many thanks for any info.

I never bothered and mine seems to work fine - the rear PDC doesnt cut in when in reverse and all lights etc works fine.

I would try first off unless anybody has any disaster stories or comments - may save you a few quid.

You are entirely right, it will work just fine without being "activated", but there are a number of vehicle functions that are adjusted if the installation is properly activated.

Does it not have to be "activated" to enable trailer stability functions on the vehicle stability systems Question

That, and suspension and gearbox performance.

If you just want the lights to work - plug it in!

The tow bar lighting system needs activating to enable trailer stability functions.
It sences the voltage drop when the ights are plugged in and does its needed changes.

Thanks will look at this soon to be done. Dont want to have to pay the dealers though. Will see if chat with the dealers can sort this.
