Navigation System Updates

Hi, how does one go about obtaining the latest release of DVD containing all of the Navigation system maps? I assume that this will include the continental maps?

From your Land Rover dealer/parts department. Not cheap, as expected... (most people never bother getting updates.)

In North America, it's about $300 USD if I remember correctly. I assume other regions will be similarly priced. Ask your parts department for a local quote.

Has anyone tried making a disk copy of the DVD and then seeing if the disk works. Might be a cheap way for lots of people to get the latest disk.

There is an amazing trade on hooky DVD updates for my BMW. It's not an easy job to copy a disc, but given the £200+ asking price they are making it worth it (not that I have, I e-bayed an original).

Copyright theft is just that; but the daft asking price for updates forces many otherwise law-abiding citizens to go over to the dark-side. Very few people are willing to spend more money on an update disc than a brand new portable nav system.

Land Rover have costs to recover. I am sure they would get a better return charging £100 or less for a disc, than the loose handfull of updates they sell per year.

I've not arrested anyone for months, so I would not feel too guilty on buying a hooky disc for my Discovery.

But the question is : is there ANY update ?

It seems that NAVTEQ are the one making the discs... Last time I checked, there was no update...

I know already two places, in France, where updates would be more than usefuls !

OK so you can copy them - has anyone edited them to put in speed cameras?

This might be possible if you could access the Point of Interest (poi) folder - it really depends how the software is written - for example speed cameras work on Tomtom units via lists of co-ordinates compiled into poi binarys then with a corresponding speed icon .bmp the system identifies the location and hey presto it appears on the screen Confused

Do all that and you've cracked it !

Though I find the cost a bit of a rip-off, it does not condone copyright violation or buying a bootleg. Isn't the cost of a Navigation disc about one tank of petrol in the UK? 8) By the way, Land Rover gets "ripped off" on the cost of the disc, too. (Supplied by Denso and their appropriate map provider.) They don't get it for "free."

And no, there is no way easy way to add custom infromation to Denso's proprietary format... that's why people use Tom Tom systems. 8) Sorry.

With a POI editor you can even write your own Very Happy - it's surprisingly easy - look here:
