Any update on surround camera availability? Just been told by dealer that Order Call for a Build Slot that is available for late January & delivery early February can't have the surround cameras Big Cry , and that it could be another few weeks before orders inc the cameras will be accepted Sad

Phew, that's good news, I definately want surround camera when I change my D3 so it's good news, I assume that they will still be available in 2012 when I change mine! Rolling with laughter

Sorry couldn't refuse, but I'm sure cameras being available will be good for many people

Wonder if CHPR can give some input on order dates/lead in time to get a camera enabled car, from their detailed knowledge? Thumbs Up

Look, take my word for it, the irrefutable truth that no one can deny, disagree or disavow is that :

Reversing camera good - other cameras pointless

OK, I may be wrong, but after a couple of months with these cameras I still haven't found a single useful purpose for them. Indeed they are bordering on dangerous as they distract, can't be relied on and could get you in to trouble.

Just my view, but I am

Never Wrong

especially after a few pints

I've given up with the reversing camera too. In God's own county it is either under water or covered in muck; today I reversed onto the lawn by mistake using the high definition image from the camera as a guide to my precise location. Toy: that's my verdict (unless you live somewhere with no rain or mud....or animal excretia)

Only thing I like about the reverse camera, is as you pull off forwards (after reversing) it stays on for a few seconds and you can see where you have been . . .

..... so, a bit like a rear view mirror then Mr. Green

Surround Cameras short review

I made use of the surround cameras when I went to the Glentarkie Offroad Centre.

I found the front cameras very useful on very steep ascents. I was able to see over the brow of the hill to see what was on the other side when all I could see out of the windscreen was sky (well, grey cloud).

The wing-mirror-mounted cameras were useful in very tight spots, especially the nearside of the vehicle.

Admittedly, the front cameras by their physical location shouldn't be called "junction view" cameras. It would have been good if they'd been mounted at 45 degree angles at the corners, but alas, no.

However, I find them useful when parking the D4 in my garage or close to anything immediately in front of the vehicle; certainly more useful and meaningful than the audible parking sensors. The reversing camera is good for, em, reversing, especially out of the garage, enabling me to see if one of my cats is on the driveway.

But, yes, the surround cameras are a bit gadgety, but so are many of the offroad features and capabilities of the D4: over-engineered and under-utilised? So what!?

I concur on all counts. Very Happy
Probably useful for hitching up and not reversing over briefcases/sleeping animals/school bags that children neglect to put in the boot.
