Last night my Disco3 suddenly started to smoke badly from the under the near side front wing.
I did manage to drive home, abnout a mile slowly, no warning lights or messages, drives normaly, I am not sure but I think it may only smoke on tickover.
It is coming from a pipe, by the nearside fronty wheel arch, which goes up to what looks like a small exaust on the to near side of the engine compartment.
I have no idea what this part is or what the problme could be.
Any one have any idea what is wrong and best place to get it fixed without a Landrover dealer mortgage?

was the external temperature below 5 degrees C I believe that every human has a finite number of heart-beats. I don't intend to waste any of mine running around doing exercises.

Then it sounds like you have nothing to worry about.
It is the Fuel Burning Heater (FBH) which comes on at low temperatures to assist the engine to get up to temperature quickly and get the cabin warm!
Try a search on here for FBH or Fuel Burning Heater and you will find lots of information, including how to add a timer to it
For starters read this http://www.disco3.co.uk/wiki/index.php/Fuel_Burning_Heater I believe that every human has a finite number of heart-beats. I don't intend to waste any of mine running around doing exercises.

to be fair though I'd not heard of one of these before, do any other cars (other than RR etc...) have them?
It was only reading on this forum and an inch square section in a huge owners manual that allude to this gadget.
at least i'm prepared ahead of the game but might keep it up my sleeve with the boss whos just ordered 'his and hers' RR sports! "dealer said he fix it for £50 cash so got it done there and then gov' cough up!" few of those in teh cold weeks up to Christams could come in handy!! XC90 T8 R Design Pro

Handbook.... You mean there's a handboook...? like with instructions and information on what your car does and does not do and what the buttons are for...? The next American ex-pat that calls it a "truck" is going to find out what 2.7 tons feels like on their foot...
Club "yes, I too have had the EGR's replaced..."
Club "yes, I too have had the compressor replaced..."
Club "yes, I too once had the car at the dealer for a couple of weeks nearly 4 weeks over 4 weeks...5 weeks"
Club "yes, I too have had EPB failure..."
Club "yes, I too get mysterious bings and bongs..."

Yes. I found one the other day in the "glove box".
Not having read mine I never realised there were TWO glove boxes.
How clever.
