Interesting to know how they have made it work with the traction control.
I am sure they will get a letter from LR lawyers saying it is illegal and will affect the brakes though. Rolling Eyes

Just rember that other ARB air lockers and I assume its the same mechinism just re-done to fit the D3, that it is important not to engage it with one wheel spinning, ie. engage it before you get into trouble so as there is no load on the diff and going slow and boath wheels turning at the same speed and you are in a straight direction.
This is because there is a dog gear that the air pushes into a splined slot locking up the axels and it can be chewed up. Also if you use it a lot the oil needs to be changed regually.
Diff oils are very different for the ARB air locker, I assume the LR recomended carbon modified stuff would be too thin. ARB recomend 80/90 gear oil for light use and for heavy duty use ie. sand dunes , lots of slow rock crawls, to use HD 140 or 80/140 oil. Alot of users of the ARB air lockers also add Newlon gear additive which is a teflon anti friction stuff.
I run 80/140 with Newlon in front and rear diffs in my project 4wd and the lockers work much better and the oil is noticeably cleaner at oil change time.

Hope ARB devolope a locker for the front of the D3 as well, that would be awsome Very Happy

As to fitting the unit, you could do it DIY, but as the LR crown and pinion has to be fitted to the ARB centre this needs to be set up by a diff expert and the rest you can do. Also the ARB diff centre is much stronger than any other brand of diff centre so this would be a bonis. Thumbs Up

Cheers
Rob

fitting arb centre is easy, yes there are a few set up requirements but nothing beyond a competent mechanic.

There is no Air Locker planned for the D3. Only an assessment has been carried out and it is feasible. As ever, whether it happens will depend on the demand.

I believe this is for the front diff - at least that's what they're being marketed for over here in Oz (see the thread on here below). I've been arguing that it would be a better business decision if they'd developed a rear diff locker first, but that's a longer story.

Cheers,

I had a Front ARB Locker fitted to my D3 a few months ago as soon as the Local Dealer got word they were available. Already had E-Diff on the rear.

Snafu4wd, how's it working out for you so far? Do you recommend it? Any possibility of perhaps getting a picture of it installed?

I have done a couple of trips with it and used it, works just fine, on sand better with all the traction stuff turned off though. Mud definately better

Not much to see underneath but pics of the buttons in my Gallery here I think. And the Twin engine ARB compressor I installed earlier is awesome.

Not sure I quite follow that - traction control does not work anyway with these olde style diff locks (they are locked so no wheel slip between wheels) and how do you turn off traction control anyway other than pulling a fuse somewhere as there are no switches to turn it off.

I can accept the center diff lock will behave differently as there is likey to be less slippage from the front when the ARB is locked.

Cheers

If I turn it off then the rear E-Diff seems better, the braking effect does not interfere and the rear ediff seems to stay locked as needed. No, makes no difference to the front ARB locker

As I asked before - how do you turn traction control off - without pulling fuses that will through up faults and other issues TC cannot be turned off.

Are you getting confused with DSC which can be switched off?

A bit of an update on the front and rear lockers from ARB for the D3/D4, they have stopped fitting rear lockers for the D4 for the moment, apparently they have had some small issues after fitting.

Still fitting them to the D3 though, which I find odd, I assumed the diffs on the D3 and D4 were the same Shocked
