I had the alignment checked this morning as it’s not been done whilst in our ownership. All good. Then took it for its MOT which it flew through! A good day so far.

Front Hub Swap
Well it was something that needed to be done. So I replaced the front left wheel bearing. Not too bad a job if you have a 4 ft recker bar and a good socket set. Some tips from a non mech minded guy:
1. Dont use power tools to undo the speed sensor bold
2. Have a bungie/S hook ready for the claiper as it comes off, its got some weight to it.
3. Clean all contact surfaces when you get the chance, makes refitting easier job.
It only took 2.5 hrs so well worth the effort for basic auto mech like myself...Huggs.

Bet nobody else has done exactly this with their D4 before me.
On Friday I was completely on my own, but needed to urgently move my 'new to me' 225HP outboard on it's pallet from a temporary container to a new container on the same site that I keep the boat.
Unfortunately the new Container is @14” off the ground and the Engine/pallet combo is @240Kgs even though I removed the gearbox housing etc.
I consider myself reasonably fit and strong, but not that strong.
I dragged it about 20’across the yard on planks of wood using a rope on the D4 Towbar, then positioned it by rotating it using the D4, a pulling rope on one corner and an anchor rope on the opposite corner.
But then needed to lift it and put it in the container.
Using the D4 as Muscle I lifted it with a Pulley Block strapped to eyes in the container, built a ramp under it, then repositioned the block to drag it into the container.
Obviously I'm lucky to have lots of thick strong rope about the place.
Worked like a dream and I didn’t even break into a sweat.
Plus I used for the first time a Pulley Block I was given probably 15yrs ago that I knew would come in useful one day.

Aircon face vents
So a really super hot day, drove into town with aircon flat out. Wife complaining like mad because there was no cold air coming out of her face vents.
So sweltering with the windows down and it blowing on our feet. Stressed and checking all the posts for blender motor issues etc. Did the secret screen look up, put the IID on looking for faults. No sign of anything.
Sat in the passenger seat and lo an behold the vent dials were closed. Opened and all ok, remonstrated to be told that they are not like that on the mondeo!
Now sitting with a beer in a dark corner of the garden!Discovery 4 3.0 HSE 2010 year. I like it a lot. Now with winch 😂

On holiday in the Cotswolds and on Wednesday orange Engine Management light, Red Triangle and Restricted Performance message appear D4 goes into restricted performance.
Pull over, switch off, wait for car to go to sleep, re-start, orange Engine Management still on but no restricted performance. Driving for 2 minutes and Restricted Performance and Red Triangle come on.
Time to find a LR indie who can plug it in and fix the issues and keep the holiday going.
Phoned a few and then spoke to James French, Standlake (near Witney) who could have a look.
Diagnosed split off-side inlet manifold
Explained our position about being on holiday with SWMBO and 2 Great Danes in the back. Chris & Steve said if I came back Thursday morning they would try and get it done for me by the weekend.
Yesterday (Friday) mid morning I get a phone call - car all done and ready for you to collect this afternoon. Result! Car now drives beautifully and no warning lights, even booted it going up the hill just outside Barford on the road to Stow.
Throughly impressed with the guys at James French, big set-up - 8 purpose built bays and lots of LRs RRs on the site. Price for the work was pretty good too Uncle Ray's spare wheel protector

Started refurbishing a heated steering wheel ready for a swap over.
The leather on the donor wheel is in great condition without any nicks, tears or scuffs but just the usual wearing away of the colour in the typical contact places.
After stripping down, a light sanding just to give a key for the re-colouring

A good clean to remove the sanding residue and any dirt in trapped in the stitching and other crevices

Degreasing

I'm using a steering wheel kit from Buffalo Leather Repair
After the primer/adhesion promoter handful of light coats of the dye (applied with a cheap (sub £30) airbrush

Really impressed with the finish off the airbrush. With a little practice you can produce some very good work. Will leave to dry overnight and then apply sealer and conditioner.
Cheers

Finished fighting my week long battle with the running boards.
I managed to Get all the rounded bolts off by hammering a socket to onto them. I’ve snapped one of the passenger rear most bolts off in the sill with a couple mil of thread showing. I’m tempted to leave it there and use the other 3
Anybody think this is a bad idea?2010 D4 XS

Well my wee job the day was to rid my Disco 4 of it's "Wood trim finish" on the door trims and throughout the centre console. I'm not a keen fanatic of wood effect finishes in vehicles unless it is suited to a particular era and is actually a wood veneer.....ie Rover P4/5/6.
Anyway I opted for a Modernerish look with some Carbonfibre wrap. Mainly because most of the finishes with the exception of the Almond leather interior are black, grey or silver. And my D4 is Corris Grey.
