Remaps - Really dim question

Apologies in advance - I read all about remaps but don't know what they are, how much they cost and if it's something we should consider when we manage to find a D3 to buy?

From what I've read I gather it does something to the performance but other than that, am clueless...

Cheers

I am no expert but it basically remaps the engine management to give a difference performance. You can have different types of maps depending on what you want, ie outright performance, mixture, economy etc.

Several people do them on the forum, BAS do a unit which you connect to the car yourself or TFC (Torqtune) will come to you to do it. Have a look at the sponsors page.

Cost is from about £500 I think and they get a lot of good reviews.

Be honest....you didn't read much did you? Whistle Whistle

There's an absolute shedload of info on this forum covering almost every aspect of remapping, however, there's so much that it's easy to get confused Thumbs Up

A remap is basically the modification of the software in the D3s brains that control how the engine runs....turbo pressure, injection and fuelling ramps/times/pressures plus a load of other things that I don't understand Whistle

The cost anywhere from 400-600 quid (at a rough guess) and there's some very good people on here offering them as site sponsors here: http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/sponsors.php

If you think that your standard D3 is perfect, then don't even bother looking at them.....however, if you think that it needs a bit more oomph, then a remap is a very good idea and transforms the response of the TDV6.

I hope this helps Thumbs Up

Mine was remapped by my main dealer and I think it makes the disco into the car it should have been, well worth the money spent when over taking on Highland roads.

OK, maybe not all about remaps, but some Wink

Thanks for the info, do dealers advertise a remap so I can drive one and see the difference or just a leap of faith on recommendations from this forum - which isn't as scarey as it could be as I have huge respect for people on here and their knowledge - well, D3 knowledge, I wouldn't know any of your chances on a quiz like the weakest link or similar Mr. Green

It would be a very bad move for them to publically offer a remapping service.

I think your best bet is to have a quiet chat with the service dept of your local dealer and see what they say. Thumbs Up
