This is fair dinkum. (Not my usual removing the urine). 
A tsunami alert has been issued for Nth NSW and Queensland coast lines. This is following an 8* magnitude earthquake at Vanuatu. The quake was aparantly only 48 km below ground level. This IS a major shake up.
A tsunami WARNING (higher than an alert) has been issued for Papua New Guinea, Fiji and South West Pacific.
Don't know what is going on around here, and I hope I'm wrong, but I think the western side of the Pacific Rim Of Fire is about to do somthing very, very nasty, like a 10 scale quake or removing Vanuatu off the map.
Now where did that nickname Hanrahan come from?
* Using the open ended Richter scale. (This is a logorithmic scale where by rough rule of thumb a say 7.3 earthquake is double the energy of a 7.2) Did you think I would leave you crying,

 Thanks DG. Thats the one. Our own media (ABC) only picked it up about 10 min ago. (They heard from the Weather Bureau, who got it from Geoscience Australia (where I got my info from). Did you think I would leave you crying,

Alert/watch for QLD and Nth NSW cancelled at 23:50 UST.(10:50 am Eastern Daylight saving Time)

 Springs fear into me and SWMBO, hope all settles soonest.
Me and SWMBO went to the Maldieves the season after the devastion in the Indian Ocean, It was all still being re-built, and the Holiday Company, The Travel Collection, were enticing us all trying to bring trade back to these tiny Islands.
We landed in Male, and the scrap metal pile of Airport/Military vehicles was higher than our Monach Airbus. The resort was still being rebuilt, and when I went Scuba diving, a little further out than I should, I found Airconditioning units etc etc. When reported I was told to stay away as 8 staff were still missing.
We went to a neighbouring Island on the same Atol, and this is where the staff live, the school still had a tide mark at over 8ft  , in a school.
Heart wrenching totally, so seen the devastation a year after an event. Not nice.
SO if any members wanted to help, thinking of a resort, try the one I used, Hakuura in the South Male Atol, only accessable by Sea Plane, but well worth it and the habitants still NEED our help, not cash, but paper and pencils for the school
