Is Land Rover SELECT Extended Warranty a waste of money ?

I took out LR Select warranty when my car got to 3 years old in July this year.

as it had done almost 90,000 miles that was the only option. I looked at Tesco's, Warrantywise etc and they didnt seem to cover much.

However, in the last two months ive had :

1) a front wheel bearing failure (£150 to repair)
2) replaced rear diff halfshaft oil seals (£320 to repair)
3) Steering Wheel Angle Sensor (£260 to repair)

non of which LR Warranty will pay for.

Is it a waste of money.

and No, Tesco's finest wasnt an option beacuse ive done too many miles....

the full LR warranty is unavailable if your car has done more than 60,000 (i think) so the next best (and thats debatable) is the SELECT option

I too have the select DD and it hasn't paid for anything yet. I had the full 4th year one last year and that was same as factory.......very good.

Duncan,
On your experience so far, the answer has to be yes. However, you won't be able to confirm such until July 2010. Think of it as the alternative to depreciation on a new, fully warranted car, and it might be less irksome.

I have the Select warranty and in 6 months I have claimed for I guess about £3000 worth of items.

It still has 18 months to run so worth the money to me.

Have you tried discussing claims with the warranty admin? I have found dealer says item not covered but when I rung (and discussed Evil or Very Mad) they have agreed to pay the claim.

Thats why I never took out any warranty on my last car. I think most things I paid for in the final year I owned it would not have been covered.

I do think a lot depends on the dealer/Warranty relationship (think steering wheels). Some places it is warranty, others it isn't.

I think the main poroblem is that once you trip 60,000 miles while the item is techincally covered they can just quote you the "owner abuse/fair wear and tear" phrase as much as they like...........so you can neglect and abuse the company pool car it as much as you like up until 60K and it is covered but after that your immaculately maintained own car is just old and outside its design life........... I also missed out on Tesco finest as I was over 60,000, so went with Warrantywise as they don't have any milage limitations. Seemed to be the best deal once Tesco finest isn't an option.

yeah I looked at warranty wise but it didnt seem any better than LR

in a car that is over 3 years old and has done 100,000 miles i would have thought everything that goes wrong can be classed as wear and tear Big Cry
