Battery Indicator came on last week. Called dealer told to bring D3 (55plate) in next day. Driving back from Cambridge to Bishops Stortford late last Wednesday night and electrics started to fail/dash board went black/headlights started to fail intermittently - then everything went down. Fortunately I was on hard shoulder and had to stop as had zero vision. Nothing worked on car, even passenger door wouldn't open without electrics. Pick up truck had to use battery booster to get D3 into neutral and disengage handbreak.
Car arrived at dealer Thursday AM last week, still not fixed as no alternators available - hoping!! to get one this week!!
Two issues:
1. Without electrics D3 won't do anything/open doors/boot etc - could be a problem in an accident?
2. Land Rover have no Alternators, they are hoping to pull one from the production line this week!!
Anyone had similar issues?

Yep ...week before last ...new alternator fitted within a day. Push
The "restraints control module" always reserves enough power for critical emergency systems eg doors and airbags ...even if you battery is as dead as..... but it doesn't activate unless it has determined an emergency event is in progress.
Note for others though ...when the red battery light comes on ...don't drive ...you won't last more than around 20 miles. 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Yes ....I did expose it to extremely harsh working conditions though 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021
I have been pushing garage, but still no definate date for new alternator. Are spare parts a general concern or am I just unlucky?

Maybe TLO (The Large One) can advise you on this if he sees the post.
You don't have enough posts to be able to pm him but you may be able to email him from the link in his profileClubs Mantec, Tasmods, LEDS, AT2s on 18s, Maxxis Bighorns on 17s, Remote FBH, BAS. ReMap, BSS., RLD Personalised SWP., Safari Snorkel, Faultmate, Three Musketeers & MUD
just had a chat witht he factory and the service exchange unit i presume your garage has on order is on backorder and by the looks of it will be like it for some time
There is however new stock (YLE500400) available and there is no reason why you dealer couldn't chase an urgent upgrade through the critical order process to get a new one sent to you in lieu of service exchange not being available.
Normally only takes a couple days but you need your dealer on your side to do it for you.
Call your dealer and ask them if they have "critical upgraded" the altenator and ask them if they have requested "New in Lieu"
NickTLO has left the building.......

Thanks for the advise. Car returned today with new alternator - sourced thro' critical parts. Still been off the road for 5/6 days which is hardly very clever. Fortunately cost covered by extended warranty which ran out today!!
Let's hope there's no more problems. And LR get their parts system sorted out.

EVERY time I've had trouble with mine, Stratstones have never had parts, always on back order! It was waiting weeks for diff a while back. It has, without doubt, put me off renewing my Discovery for any othr Land Rover! It's time they got their act together regarding spares and repair! If you never try, you'll never know...

Not an LR problem alone. Many parts suppliers to vehicle manufacturers went to the wall during the GFC. It takes time to organise new suppliers.

Not for three years though. I had trouble getting mine repaired from day one, and the factory nearly on the doorstep! Sorry, I will never see how they can selll a car, then tell you in weeks that spare parts aren't available, and they can't give any idea as to when the car will be fixed. You don't pay so much money not to have a working vehicle! No, I'll never buy another Land Rover, as much as I love the one I have.If you never try, you'll never know...
