To be frank, unless you move into standard family car territory you will have the same issues. My Merc E500 was a complete nightmare. Gearbox parts taking 3 weeks to come from Germany etc. Unless you buy a Fiesta or some other very generic car all Mfrs have the same issues.
I think it pays to get on good terms with your dealer and then work with them to help facilitate matters. For 6 days I would have taken it to a recon centre and got it done whilst I waited and swallow the relatively small cost for the sake of getting the car back. Last time I had an alternator recon'ed it cost about 60 quid. Less than a tank of fuel. Clearly I would expect the labour to be covered by warranty but it's the give & take which I think helps. A bit of flexibility and all that.
Ultimately I don't think any of us mind that fact that our Land Rovers break. All cars do that. It's how we resolve the breakages which makes the difference. A good dealer who is on your side really helps that process
