Yep I been Turbochipped. Well that is now a misnomer because, like the latest software, it is an engine remap and nothing is added or taken off or physically altered on the car. For Australia is not 120 Ib ft but a bit less ~ 90 Ib ft I am told.

The effect however is dramatic in terms of the driveability and economy. The driveability is better, 6th gear on an autobox is held for a lot longer at peak torque which makes for much more relaxed motoring. In particular, there are a couple of long climbs I do regularly where I used to have to drive in Manual Mode to stop the box changeing from 6th to 5th prematurely. Economy for me is up by more than 10 % which means more range and in Australia that is a bonus. I have just done 400 km today and the driveing is definately more relaxed for the same speed - mostly on cruise control - running at 100 - 115 km per hour.

Then in addition, if you need the extra torque in the low speed ranges the bonnet literally lifts if the foot is planted. Top end speed might be improved also (dont know) but the mid speed range torque improvement is noticeable.

The real comment that I will make is that this is what Landrover should have tuned the car to do from the start. It makes a sensational vehicle even better.

My question about this remapping is what happens when the dealer loads new software. Does it write over Turbochip's mapping?

If it does how do you retain the mapping to then reload it?

from what has been posted by TC, their mapping would be over written by any new engine ECU uploads by LR.

Unless TC has found a way round this of course Wink

Re. comment.

And the reason Land Rover don't tune the vehicle like this from the start?

Well I will let you think about it, however might just be that LR have regulations to comply with, whereas aftermarket fitments get around this!

Also the engine needs to tuned to run on the lower quality of fuel around the world compared to us here in the UK, most of Europe and of course Australia and New Zealand.

Most development vehicles are tuned to the max so they can break them before we do Wink

Not a chip... a modified engine ECU mapping uploaded to the D3's system.

And I think TC is on an tour down there at the moment.

Turbochip is down in Australia at the moment. Drop him a PM is probably the best way to contact him - and keep in mind it is not a chip. The Version 13 of the software is going to remap the engine anyway and the TC version is really just a different map. Nothing is physically altered on the vehicle unlike chipping a holden for example and TC dont even open the bonnet to do it.

TC Concern

That concerns me, if it is overwritten by LR Patches. That's a lot of money for something which can just disappear.

Can a main dealer tell this has been done? I wouldn't like to lose my warranty.

Hi all

I'm just about to go home but I'll be back in the next 2 months....LR cannot detect our TC upgrade as we make all our software including WDS disc 13 and the additional 'patches'.

In effect we put our tuning on top of LRs latest software.

If it is over written in the future by LR we will happily re-upgrade cars for free even if you are in Australia....as we will have local agents in place shortly and one of our dealer crtiteria is that they support existing customers.

I am not looking forward to my 22 hour flight home Sad
