Don't forget also that there are two big cost rises coming along which the dealers will try and use to encourage earlier sales:

1. VAT increase of 2.5% in January. This would add around £1000 to a £40k car.
2. VED/Sales Tax starting in April. I think this will mean the first year's VED of £750. Thereafter until they get put up again it's £425.

Something to think about perhaps?

Do you know if that is instead of or after any dealer discounts?

NFU discount

I understand that the discount is over and above any discount you negotiate with the dealer - so theoretically should be possible to go to the cheapest broker and get another 5% off.

I found the details on the NFU website. You need to be a full NFU member. My father in law who's a farmer might be buying a disco one of these days Whistle although his car is more on the lines of what proper country folk drive - a clapped out cavalier Mr. Green

The VED is obviously a separate tax, and I believe the VAT on a car is set against the list price and doesn't vary if there is a discount - ie., the dealer has to cover the full VAT irrespective of the actual sale price.

It is on list price and after any dealer discount, but cannot be used in conjunction with any other Land Rover offer, eg the current 0% finance deal.

You need to be a Farmer/Grower member to be eligible (expensive?) & some parts of the documentation refers to Disco3 others just to Discovery Rolling Eyes but after all, it would be LR who drew up the paperwork & just think of their website!
Then if you are in Scotland NFUScotland have a similar voucher - BUT it only gives 3% off the Disco!! - so much for a United Kingdom!

It costs about £175 to become a member, and yes you do need to be a full member. I have 7 acres so maybe this means I can qualify - but I'm not sure that you actually have to own land. It would be worth asking. The voucher is definitely valid against a D4 because that's what I am buying.

I also have a goat, 2 kinds of sheep, a donkey, a miniature shetland and lots of chickens. So call me a farmer and if that gets 5% discount I'm fine with that.

But the T&C's clearly state that only the Discovery 3 is included in the this offer, no mention of the Discover 4 nor just Discovery....And also I don't think it is on top of other discounts as it requires a voucher and you need to state the intentions prior to commencing discussions....

Would be nice otherwise.... Very Happy

Although it is not clear from the NFU website, it does cover the Discovery 4 at the moment, although only on vehicles registered by the end of September - although it could be extended.

It is on top of any discount you can get from the dealer but it cannot be used in addition to any other Land Rover funded schemes, eg the current 0% finance offer. All of the dealers I have spoken to are happy with it, as it doesn't cost them anything and increases the chances of them selling a vehicle.

I am trying to get something sorted at the moment, although choice of vehicles available for registration by the end of September is pretty limited.

Made an appointment with Chipperfield for this morning, came with my wife's Murano for the Part Ex...Whilst offering a fair part ex they would not discount the HSE by 1p....No matter how much talking I did, they wouldn't....Very odd...So now I am trying to find someone who does....

Hi,

you should get at least 5% from a dealer at present.

I know, out of principle I have never ever bought a car with less than 10% dealer discount, I just don't cross the line without getting into double digits....Online is showing discounts for 14%...Their reason was that according to them demand outstrips supply. They can only get two more before the new year and they are confident they can sell them at list....

Be carefully as the 12-15% will be pre registered cars, Ie fleet buyers buying them (to your spec) and them selling them onto you for a profit. So they will have 1 previous owner already - not that's that is a biggie...

Fair point, but come resale it won't make £7k difference that it has one owner who never drove it, which is the discount to be had...
