Removing steering wheel buttons?

Hi,

Can anyone please tell me how to remove the right hand blank panel on the steering wheel, i.e. the panel that would have the radio volume buttons if I had them?

Thanks

Andy.

involves removing the airbag etc. unless you really need to do it yourself, get the dealer to do it. Airbags deploying in close proximity to tools, hands, face etc. can make a real mess Sad

I would suggest you register for a days access to GTR - www.landrovertechinfo.com and download the parts of the workshop manual you need

You'll need a special tool which will probably cost you more than the cost of getting the dealer to do it. For safety and warranties sake I'd spend the money with your dealer, chances are they'll have to hook it up to WDS to get the buttons working anyway

Well the 'special tool' I made in approx 30 seconds out of a coat hanger, after getting sight of one at a dealer. As you're not disconnecting the airbag you don't need to disconnect the battery, nor is it a warranty issue.

The switch module fits in right where the blank one was, plugs into the same plug and works immediately.

Just to recap, I've installed the steering wheel radio buttons in a base model with the base radio. Works lovely.

Andy.

Indeed I can. This is to fit steering wheel mounted remote controls for the CD-400 base radio.

1. Order switch module part # XPD-500-500-WVH
2. Remove two Torx head screws behind right hand side of steering wheel;
3. Insert tool* into small slot on RH of steering wheel (with hook pointing towards you), push away from you and pull out to release airbag module clip. Repeat on other side.
4. Remove airbag module but do not disconnect cables, slide out of the way to reveal two plastic 'feet' of old blank module.
5. Remove module, disconnecting multi-way plug.
6. Connect new module and clip into place.
7. Replace airbag module, push firmly to lock ensuring that module is located correctly.
8. Replace two Torx screws.

* Tool details: A steel rod, diameter approx 3mm (I used a piece of a wire coat hanger). bend a 5mm hook at right angle on end. Approx 100mm up rod, fashion a ring to enable it to be pulled. The land rover tool has a cross-bar here. Picture in my gallery.

The new buttons will control the radio with no other adjustments required.

Care is advised removing the airbag module. If in doubt remove both battery cables first.

Hope this helps!

Is this part "switch module part # XPD-500-500-WVH " only for the radio or does it contain the cruise control as well?

Are you able to get into "Settings" menu (it is not available when you have the base radio - as it requires the steering wheel radio buttons to operate it?
