how much you reckon this will all cost?? |
|
Hi guys,
took my D3 into the stealers yesterday as it was due for a full service (4th service i think), its an 05 plate on 51000.
it also needs an MOT and the EPB fixing as it has been squealing for about 2 weeks now and yesterday it decided to not work at all. Another thing ive told them to have a look at is both key fobs. One key will open and look the doors intermittently, the other key does not work at all.
can any tell me whats involved in the service as i was told that this is one of the major servics for the D3?? They said they would do the MOT free of charge if i was having the service done so thats a bit of a bonus even though i know they sub-contract this work to another garage as they dont do MOT themselves
so what do you guys recon this is going to cost me?? i dred to think??

An 'A' service ( full service) is usually £385 +Vat, the rest will be at £70 per hour. The 'rest' is a how long/piece of string situation. If the hours rack-up sorting the locking issues, it could get a touch hefty.

TFC (10forcash) is a forum member and fully fledged independant. He can come to you. many people use him exclusively. The next American ex-pat that calls it a "truck" is going to find out what 2.7 tons feels like on their foot...

Unnecessary quote removed
but due back late next week, I believe... The next American ex-pat that calls it a "truck" is going to find out what 2.7 tons feels like on their foot...

Hi Beesle ,
The actuator for the EPB is about £200 + VAT from Nick Lee at Yeovil Landrover, you won't get any cheaper than that. The book time is about 3-4 hours for the replacement. They might also be charging you for IDS to recalibrate the new actuator also.If I were you I'd wait for Iain to come back to fit it .

ive had to tell them to do the job, i need it to take me and my family to the airport on tuesday and it was due for its MOT so i was over a barrel really.
i did phone around other LR dealers to price the job. They all said that the actual actuator is £290 but said it would only take about 2 hrs to compleat the job providing nothing elese need doin so it was just a straiht swap. williams at manchester tried to charge me for 4 hrs labour @ £85.00 an hour (this included a 15% discount so they said!!!) i told them the other garages had only quoted 2.5 hours so they agreed to knock an hours worth of labour off.
so all in all its going to cost me £435.00 for the service and MOT, £575.00 for the actuator including labour. They said there is only 10% left on my front brakes so they need replacing, cost £160.00. They said it would pass its MOT with the brakes like this so i told them to leave it for now. They also want £140.00 for a new key as the battery in the key has failed and wont charge. I said that i was sure that i read the battery would last at least 10 years and that i have only had the key for 4 years so surley its not fit for purpose and i shouldnt have to pay. They did not reply!!
all in all ive had a terrible day and considering im away next week, ive spent my holiday funds on getting my car back on the road

The key may have just lost it's charge.
Take the key that doesn't work, tape the key that does to the key that doesn't. Start the car with the failed ky. (the vehicle will recognise the imobilisation chip from the working key) Drive it for while like that and see if it works on it's own next time.
Filing that I would ring LR and demand a new one. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€
