Heated Seats

Great Website! I really enjoy reading UK perspective about the Disco 3 (LR3 to us Yank's). Does anyone know if the heating elements are installed on all leather D3's? On my 2004 Disco 2, the heating elements were installed, all I had to do was install the switches. Wondering if Rover did the same for the D3, and its just a matter of installing the switches again. Couldn't justify over $1000 US for the cold weater package. Can't get an answer to this question here in the states. Thanks.

Hate to be pedantic, BUT, "Rover" do NOT make the Dosco 3!!! Rover are a UK car maker who have just gone out of business; Land Rover are a UK car maker who have stayed in business having obtained support from a US car maker (can't comment on how profitable either are though Wink )

rockjock,

Have you figured out how to pull either the plastic plate off from under the driver's seat (front portion) or the plugs that would be replaced with the buttons/switches for the seat heaters? I too was able to just plug in the switches on my '01 Disco II. If the heating elements (and wiring) are there, we just need the part numbers for the switches in the LR3.

From my dealers service guy, he thinks the elements will be there, but he only has EU specs so cannot be sure about outside specs. I must say, I thought all SE's had winter packs on them.

My dealer tells me that they actually pick the options to order based on what "they" think will sell. Sometimes it makes sense but more often than not it baffles one's mind. I would suspect that LR (or Ford) wouldn't spend the money to retool an assembly line when they could just prewire everything and then charge for someone to add the switches.

tdmathis, even the smallest items are costly in volume manufacturing. You should rarely see parts included that are unused. An effective manufacturing line can deal with part/config variations at minimal cost/time.

I wouldn't expect the seats to have latent heating elements this time around. Heck, LR even has 3 versions of the seat adjusters: power 6-way, power 8-way/memory and manual.
