New MOT class !!

As of next year VOSA are doing away with the dual purpose classification.
Any dual purpose vehicle with a DWG of 3000kg but less than 3500kg will be moved from a class 4 to a class 7. The D3's DWG is over 3200kg. But will it be classed as a dual purpose or an estate/saloon ???

Although this isn't the word from dot-gov, someone has looked into this in some detail - in a nutshell this would appear to affect Land Rovers i.e. Defenders, but not Disco's or RR's: http://www.glencoyne.co.uk/motclass.htm

Actually that link confirms the removal of the dual purpose exemption. Her indoors took her D3 for MOT today as was turned away as they don't do class 7. If anyone's had a class 4 MOT on a D3 recently please post or PM me - but it does seem we are in Class 7.

Hi - D3 was serviced and had its first MOT last Friday (4th). Just checked the certificate and it's Class 4. I had never even considered that it would be anything else Laughing

Thanks folks - I'm going to suggest she takes it to the class 7 testers but keeps schtum about the other tester who may have been talking through his hat - maybe they will test it as class 4. It certainly appears to qualify as an (up to) 8 seater car from my reading of that link to the gov website.

sounds like the MOT bloke might be slightly misinterpreting the rules? Class 7 is for goods vehicles ie N1 type such as Defenders, Commercial version Discos etc
whereas D3/4 should be class M1 ie private vehicle? check yours online and it should be 'M1' on:

 and theeeeennn......???

Not heard anything from VOSA about the possible change from class 4 to 7 so I still MOT D3's as class 4
