Xenon retrofit

Just had a thought as to why LR are saying you can't retrfit Xenons (apart from trying to maximise profit on new cars)...
Unless I am mistaken, it's a legal requirement to have headlamp washers fitted with xenons, and non-xenon models don't come with washers, right?

LEGALITY
NOTES ON ROAD LEGALITY AND QUALITY OF OUR HID :

Both versions of our HID systems are DOT approved, MOT approved and fully E-compliant in all safety, E.M. emmission and performance specifications. As far as we are aware these are the only HID kits on the market that meet all these requirements.
This makes our kits ROAD LEGAL ; there is a lot of misinformation regarding the legality of HID systems fitted to cars without headlamp power wash and rear axle self levelling ...these are only an E.U. legal requirement on Xenon systems fitted to NEW cars AT THE FACTORY PRODUCTION STAGE .
HID systems fitted as aftermarket accessory DO NOT REQUIRE the car to have power wash or self levelling ; even the DOT get this wrong sometimes .... our expensive lawyers did not !

although the photo at the bottom of the page is misleading as it shows a ballast unit that is also applicable to OEM units (the same ballast is used in LR xenons)

... I'm not saying that everything posted on a sellers website should be taken Verbatim....
However, if it's true and you can prove that the units were retrofitted, even though they are OEM you should be OK - hopefully someone with experience at interpreting legislation will clarify Wink

Rolling Eyes I don't care what these C.A.T. people say. You can't retrofit Xenon bulbs into a stock housing and have it be legal. The light source is completely different. The Xenon arc has a different shape tha the original SMALLER filiment, and the photometrics of the lamp go completely out of spec. The light output is twice that of the incandescent, so the lamp no longer meets maximum government photometric limits. All you have to do is look at their web page motorcycle demonstration, and you can see this isn't a good idea for glare.

You can remove the entire halogen headlight unit (easy to do) and replace with a new xenon unit... Electrically compatible.
