|
Hi Im relatively new to this site , and this is my first post , done a lot of reading ect.
I have an 05 Disco3 TDV6 manual, i would like you help and opinons on my problem before i go to the dealers so i know what im talking about,
When accelarating the is a slight whining/groaning noise coming from engine/transmision ,between 1200 - 1800 revs, ive conpared mine to my fathers which is AUTO and his seems to be a lot quieter, are manuals generally louder or do i have a problem , its very noticeble .
Ive read about poss probs ect , belt tesioner pully(bearings) Diff- Aircon ect- does anyone have any feeback for me please
Oh i have also had Turbo chip doesnt know if this makes a difference . i also have Landrover extended warrenty would this cover these problems
Thanks

I had a similar sound that i was convinced was coming from the transmission,. A new belt tensioner was fitted but the noise was still there albeit not as loud. I then had a new Aircon pulley fitted and noise went away.
Take off the engine covers and remove the belt. you should be able to check if the bearing on any of the pulleys are wearing.
Oh, and Welcome

makes a difference , but wont be causing the noise... Duncan

I had the belt tensioner go. . . warranty I had would not cover it as "it had not actually failed yet", and as I did not wait for it to fail altogether and then prob cause untold damage to the engine (which by the way the warranty would have paid for to get fixed along with a new tensioner), I had to pay for it myself, cost around £100 quid fitted I think ? Still miss my D3

the pulley and bearings turn even if the aircon is swtiched off as I understand it. its all run by the belt on the front of the engine behind the fan. Its a 5 hour job to change apparently.. Duncan

Funny thing this I was going to post the same question. I have a 57 HSE with just 12000 miles and I have noticed that at about 1500 - 1800 rpm there seems to be a slight high pitched rattle from the engine, strange really because if i back of the gas it stops. Now though as the box changes up it gets to around the 1500 rpm mark there is a rumble but it seems to quickly pass as the revs build, there is also a vibration through the peddles, It has made me paranoid as I,m always driving with an ear cocked!
I will book it in with the dealers and get them to check it out as it's still under warranty.
Oh and yes I have checked the oil
Any one think what this could be?
