I just thought I should add my own experiences after a recent trip to Broken Hill and back.
We covered approx 3,000K. With the average being 11.5 L/100K. This is the car loaded with camping gear, food, fuel water, roof racks, and a roof box.
The fuel consumption:
- Worst: On the way home - 13L/100 - pushing hard from Bathurst in traffic back to the city didn't help
- Best: From Broken Hill, through Mutawingi np, white cliffs etc. 8.5 L/100 - sitting on cruise(typically) around 80Kph on dirt roads(with the tyres at highway pressures).
The above figures are corrected by the ScanGauge II, and not from the overtly optimistic trip computer.

Caver, I use the theory that if I get a cranky one, at <15ks over the limit, I'll lose one point! I actually passed two sitting in their hidey holes & neither became agro.
You also mentioned "after I had the turbo & transmission patches done" - are these factory upgrades you are refering to or after market re-mapping & improvements?
Renton, I'm running the standard G/Y Wranglers but on that 1st trip home I found out the tyres were running at 32PSI. With SWMBO driving around Canbera - she's a leadfoot around roundabouts - I've now bumped the pressures to 40PSI to see if it makes a difference.
Incidently, I filled it up today, reset the trip computer and drove approx 7-8Kms at a steady 85 KPH & the computer was indicating an average of 7.4 L/100kms but as soon as I stopped & accellerated (reasonably gently) out of a couple of roundabouts it quickly rose to between 9.5 - 10.0.
Regards, Dennis.

These are patches from the dealer. Just regular Land Rover upgrades, just ask your dealerto do them.“There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

Rob H,
My experience has been very similiar to yours. My chunky new Kumho KL71's have destroyed about 2-3l/100klm, irrespective of what I do re speed and pressure. Moral to the story? Keep my weekend mud tyres only on during the weekend. ButI gotta say I love weekends,. especially not so scary now when slippery mud's involved...

When I picked the D3 TDV6 up in 2007 and after running around the city we set off for the Kimberly with just 1500Klm on the clock.
I manually calculated the fuel economy and returned 9.8Ltr/100Klm over the 11,229 klm return trip
I had LR Roof Rails on top and sometimes the tent if I coudnt get it back in the bag. The vehicle was packed with camping gear and had 17" Cooper ATR,s fitted. I could see the fuel guage going down when we hit 150kph in the NT, still got overtaken though.
Used an absolute ton of Diesel going from Adelaide to Darwin, lucky the vehicle was on the Ghan!!Take the road less traveled. Dual battery system.ORS drawers,LR cargo Barrier.ARB Bull bar, side protection bars,Mickey Thompson ATR's 17" rims, Rear wheel carrier, radiator guard TPMS Mitchell Bros Tow Hitch LR RAI Steel Rims , GME UHF, Off Road GPS, Llams (yet to be fitted)

Thanks for the feedback. The Coopers wouldn't be a chunky as yours, so I am suprised that the consumption has been so negatively affected. Just filled up again and calc 14.6 L/100k urban......driving as gently as practical. Nevertheless, will have all checked when next in for service, eg upgrades etc.MY07 D3, TDV6S; Bull Bar, Cooper S/T's, Dual Battery, UHF, GPS; 03 D2, 94 D1, both departed & 1950 S1 80" going strong. 06 Astra CDX Coupe.
