Thanks for all the information on how to perform this mod everyone.
I chose to cut out only a portion of the orange, as I still need the side markers here in North America.
I re-sprayed some of the backdrop shrouds with chrome paint to touch them up.
I like the look. Fun to have something different.LR3 - 2005 Java Black SE 4.4 V8

I thought only a tiny bit by the bulb lit up ?
and you could have fitted a chrome bulb if you wished.
or do you need reflectors by law?

Niche news just in...
I had my Swiss MOT this morning and I passed with my de-tango which retained the orange strip and a cut down portion of the supporting orange mounding behind it and chrome bulbs. Not bad, considering headlight modification is illegal here because you lose EU type approval.
It's a tag team of 2 that do the Swiss MOT and one checked with the other on the headlight and concluded "it is original"
Also they had no problem with my 265 70 17s or Meyle Armour lower arms, all of which are also potential failures because they modify the car from stock. I like to think that they were just surprised that a 10 year old car was in such good shape. Over here they just get exported before then due to the cost of mechanics.

Done mine yesterday - thanks to the op and fellow forumers for giving me the confidence to try it
Added 120mm LED rings (from aliexpress @ 10€!), piggy-backed into the side lights (and took the side light bulbs out), changed the orange side repeaters for light smoke ones. Well pleased with the results for such a small investment (the photos don't do justice to the LED ring effect).
Went for the D4 look by keeping the cut down reflectors. Took about 2 1/2 hours from start to finish. Used the oven to open them, but had to use the hot air gun to close them up as they wouldn't fit in the oven partially open
Fitted some chrome incandescent bulbs but not overly impressed with the brightness in daylight so i'm looking to replace them with LED's
Been looking at these on HIDS4U, any thoughts or alternative suggestions?
Now that is something I should have checked & in my excitement & didn't!
They flash at the correct speed but the indicator & ticker on the dash is at double the speed
I have a pair of ballast 15ohmn resistors in readiness for adding D4 lights to the rear & if I understand correctly adding them to the rear should correct the front as well.
Keep you posted

When I fitted LED indicators on the front with standard D3 lights on the rear I fitted 15ohmn ballast resistors to the wiring loom on the rear. This solved the double click indicator warning.
I've now fitted D4 lights with the LED indicators to the rear as well & the double click indicator warning has returned
Does this mean I have to add more resistors to the system to increase the load again? Can I just add another pair of 15ohmn resistors in parallel to the existing one on the rear or do they need to be added at the front?
A pain in the , but the old girls looking good

I picked up another set of 15 Ohmn resistors to add the existing one I have at the rear.
I added one to the offside front as per crwoodys post, still double clicking! I removed & added it tot he rear in parallel with the one already there, still double flashing.
Am I doing something wrong / using the wrong ballast resistors or is it something daft like you have to do both sides as a pair to make it stop double clicking?
Started off as a nice quick job in sunshine, now its pouring down
