Hi Guys,

Just wanted to pass on my experiences after just finishing the headlight mod. Don't know if i've got more glue or my hairdryer is underpowered but it wasn't coming apart, i ended up having to use a heat gun.

My disco is silver and i decided to have the amber strips in the lights but i snapped the first one which i glued back together then tried the second one with more heat and it snapped into three pieces. Big Cry

So if you attempt the mod just be prepared that you may have to go for the completely silver look. I think it looks better than it did with no orange but If anyone has the orange reflectors that the don't want, please PM me. Thumbs Up

Thanks for the feedback

Bear in mind many "full silver" style owners may have the complete orange trim collecting dust, ideal for a fellow unlucky member...

Just ask and you shall receive Thumbs Up

I think that would be very good on Maya Gold, my only concern would be how long lasting the paint is (i'm assuming its out of a can). It can get very hot and humid in the lights.

Now waiting for an auction to end, to see if I can doe the mod on the rear lights as well Very Happy

What are you going to do at the rear?

Won't be for this week, am looking for a cheap pair so it doesn't cost me a fortune if I screw up... Embarassed

The ebay ones are going to be too pricey Embarassed (at least to fail at first attempt)

Hi Guys

As you might have seen from my earlier post I did this headlight mod but managed to snap both of my orange bits as I wanted the thin amber reflector. Now thanks to Dave T I now have another set of orange reflector that need to be separated, I'm thinking of trying to dissolve or soften the glue somehow.

I've got a piece still attached on the old one that I can practice on, I've tried leaving in petrol to soak which did nothing, putting some evostik remover on but this attacked the plastic!

Looking for a miricle way to remove Shocked

Any ideas before I Big Cry again?

When I did mine, I left the amber strip attached to the bit where it attaches to the body of the lamp unit and cut off the part that goes over the indicator and around the sidelight, this made it easy to secure it properly and avoided any risk of damaging it.

I managed to separate the orange reflector by using a combination of heat (hairdryer) plastic ruler as a wedge and a Stanley blade, go gently and it will come off in one piece Smile That being said I tried several methods to attach it in the correct position and wasn't happy so put it all back and stayed standard! Confused CrWoodys way is much better as you have a way of securing the reflector in the correct position without any other faffing around - good luck Thumbs Up

Wiggy ; I used a fine tooth wood saw, I'm sure a decent sharp hacksaw would work as well but it's easier to cut a straight line with a wider bladed saw.

The only downside with doing it this way, (cutting the orange bit,) is that you can't put it back as it was if you eventually decide you don't like the new look, I'm very happy with mine though. 8)
