DIY Maintenance Newby question..
Hi,
I am researching into buying my first D3, I have a 300tdi at the moment.
I do the maintenance and would like to continue to do so with a D3, but I am slightly concerned about the complexity of the management systems and diagnosing faults without a code reader.
I understand I can buy and download a full workshop manual from GTR.
But does anyone sell analysers for the DIY market which can read engine fault codes like Nancom do for D2's
and where would I find the fault code descriptions.
Still not decided over manual and auto.

GTR is not downloadable - it's meant to be used as an online reference. It could be saved one page at a time, but it would take a while to do......Disco 5 HSE Lux

Black Box Solutions (the maker of Nanocom) have a diagnostic tool (and more) for the D3 called "Faultmate".
Contact BBS Spy on this site.

I did all the maintenance off my Camel myselves and do the maintenance on my D3 myselves.
This site helps a lot. You can get here all the info you need.
Basic maintenance is still the same: Get the oil out and new oil in and change a filter etc.
I bought a Faultmate for reading and clearing the faultcodes. I have to admit, not being used to an electronic autodiagnostics system you have to do a little studying understanding how to work with the faultcodes.
It gives you an direction to look for but like without electronics it still can be a sensor or the cable to the sensor.
I noticed at the service record that a LR technician only investigates problems if there is a light or if there is a customer complained, otherwise just clear the faults. Off-course he should check the technical state off the D3 too but he is not going to sit down and go through all the faultcodes that are stored.
Next to the faultcodes the Faultmate can do other things to like changing vehilce settings. Read some other posts here.
Good luck with finding the right D3Roel

Could be an intersting overland trip.
I suspect the cost might outweight the value of the car.
