Rain obscuring door mirror view
Hello all,
My apologies, I'm sure this must have been discussed before, but I can't find it from searching. Does anyone else have a problem with rain streaks covering the side window at motorway speeds and obscuring the view in the drivers side mirror? Rain wiped from the windscreen wipers comes straight round the A pillar, collects on the trailing edge of the mirror mount and then runs across the side window, it must be a design thing, so how does everyone sort this?
During a trip down to "Amazingstoke" at the weekend, we spent a good 6 hours in rain on the motorways, and for much of this I could hardly see a thing in the door mirror.
Would the aftermarket Wind Deflectors, such as the Climair ones, prevent this (I had these on my Disco II and they were great)?
Cheers
Steve

You could try 'Rain X' which is applied to prevent water build up. Available from Halfords for about £6 a bottle.
Worked me for several years now.SOLD - 23my Range Rover Sport D300 Dynamic SE

Without wanting to start a war here I can't STAND RainX!
It's mostly OK on non-wiped surfaces, but causes a nasty haze when temperatures drop towards the dew point and almost caused me an accident (used the wipers to clear some water drops and resulting haze caused a white-out of the road ahead).
My all time preferred product was called Rain Wizard, and this was presented in an applicator that was obviously designed by someone who used to make toys for the sex industry. Sadly this comedy looking but technically superior product is no longer available, but I have found that Mer RainAway is almost identical to RainWizard (it smells and behaves the same) although the applicator is sadly missing. The applicator for RainWizard included a hard felt pad that allowed some elbow grease to be applied to the glass when adding the liquid; This seems to achieve the best results, so I keep refilling my applicator with the Mer.
In my experience, I was refreshing RainX every 6 weeks, but I only refresh the Mer every 4 months or so.
As per my signature, no affiliations or bias over and above my own empirical findings Dr. Ian Malcolm:
"Yeah, but your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should."
Transgenic tomato anyone?

Does it ? never noticed. Front window keeps clear ok though, I do know that. I liked my D2, but my D3's better ....(& the RRS better still)
Never had that problem either. Is your A-Pillar trim properly seated?I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.
You could try 'Rain X' which is applied to prevent water build up....
and just apply it to the side windows....
Many years ago I too tried it on windscreen & found it smears & makes things worse - but for all other glass without a wiper worth tryingBREXIT - done properly.

many thanks for the responses. I already have some RainX on the window, although it may need a "top-up". I'm now more concerned that no-one else has this problem.
The windscreen and scuttle panel have both been replaced under warranty, the windscreen in January and I've definately been aware of this issue since then. When the scuttle panel was done about a month ago I know the pillar trim had not been fitted correctly on the passenger side (as it came loose at the bottom and flapped around - damaging the trim of the passenger door mirror).
I'll make sure the drivers side trim is fitted fully and see if this makes a difference.
Cheers

I have the streaks you describe but they do not obscure my view, they are below my site lines and this may be the reason its a problem for some and not other. If I move my head lower and forward then its a problem but with my normal position its fine. This means that it may depend on your height and seat position in relation to the mirror as to how much of a problem it is.

Just driven up the M6 in torrential rain - no problem - suspect it may be your A pillar?

I've just been out to check the A Pillar trim. It certainly looks to be fitted ok, It's got some flexibility where it meets the screen, but the rubber seal looks to be doing it's job.
I also took some pictures using my mobile on the way home this evening, but the picture from iconix shows it perfectly. Mine is just like that in heavy rain or spray conditions.
