If I'd known I was going to be so thirsty this morning I'd have drunk more beer last night.

Me too. Drives me potty sometimes
Ditto that! Visibility sometimes virtually nil in very heavy rain!If you never try, you'll never know...

Mine too, but I never really thought of it as a "fault" since I used to get exactly the same with the Audi A3 I had before.
The only thing that really bugs me about it is the amount of road dirt that ends up mixed in with it and leaves mucky streaks down the sides.Clive
It tends not to be the Rain-X that smears, it's more the very fine misty droplets that can form on the screen in certain conditions. In cold, damp air you can turn on your wipers and find yourself with a white-out if it's used on the windscreen. Not a problem on the side or rear glass, but a bit unfortunate at the front of the carI know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Like NoDo$h said; it's the fact that under certain conditions the Rainx causes multiple ultra-miniture beads of water to form uniformly across the glass which suddenly makes visibility null. It's a feature I've never experienced with Rain Wizard or Mer, and I've assumed it's 'cos RainX was first generation and the other two were second generation products.
Thanks for those links Disco_Mikey, will be giving those a go in future too just in case they're even better
Thinking about it, it's about time the car glass was manufactured with the hydrophobic coating bonded to the front of it like they do now with some double glazing.
Oh, and
What do you need your mirror for when you're hogging the outside lane anyway? It's not like someone can overtake you
Damned nice of your rear passenger to take that shot for you I must say Dr. Ian Malcolm:
"Yeah, but your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should."
Transgenic tomato anyone?

while on the subject of mirrors, does anyone have heated mirrors? think it's odd that an SE doesn't have them, or is it an expensive FF option?
Errrrr, you sure you don't have them? I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

According to the Owners Handbook: -
"The exterior mirrors automatically disperse ice or mist. The mirror heaters are controlled according to the external temperature and wiper status."Clive
There isn't a switch. Mirrors are activated when temp drops below 5deg I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.
