After hearing the stories of the D3 flattening its battery after being left alone, I was considering buying one of those cheapo solar chargers. I am off on holiday soon and the D3 will be left in the airport carpark for 17 days.
Not wanting the hassle of a flat battery on my return after a long haul flight is this the best solution?
Where would you connect it to? The cig lighter is switched live only when the ignition is on?
Should I just leave a spare battery and jump leads in the boot?
How would I get into the boot if the battery went flat?
Any advice apart from booking LR assist now to meet me on my return?? 8) ------------------------------

I'm assuming you are parking in an outdoor car park and not a multi story at the airport! I believe that every human has a finite number of heart-beats. I don't intend to waste any of mine running around doing exercises.

Plenty of offshore workers leave their cars for longer than 17 days with no problems. Just check everything turns off before you leave it. Club Pie n Pea

Maplins cheapo ones will trickle charge for you. Comes with battery clips or plug in cig input, however the D3 isolates the cig points when key is removed. I had the same problem after leaving mine a while, now use the solar most of the time

If it's in a 'secure' car park, yoiu may also want to switch off the volumetric internal sensors to save electric. Just doiuble lock the car (within three seconds of first lock) and that will disable the internal sensors Bodsys Brake Bible

You can connect a wire to a permanent live in the fusebox in the passenger footwell. I'll try to dig out the image for you. Bodsys Brake Bible

Forgot to mention, just make sure you get a solar panel that won't allow electricity to flow back to the panel..... (some cheap ones don't regulate or control, but I think the Maplins ones are OK.) Bodsys Brake Bible

That's the very same excuse I use when the missus checks my browser history I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Mines the Maplin one, and use it direct to the Battery via the terminal clips, my cable is behind the windscreen trim and I connect the solar panel to the Expo, out of sight. Luckily the cable has a weatherproof connection block at one end
