Roof Rails fitting near London

Hi there.

I'd like to get roof rails fitted. I know that everyone will be telling me to do it myself but I'd really rather get it done by someone who knows what they are doing! I work in Central London and it would be easiest to get it done here. HOWEVER I've already been quoted £500 (including the cross bars) from a Land Rover dealer. How on earth can I get this cost down? Are there any 4x4 specialists who would do this at a reduced rate?

Thank you

Rupert Bow down

A generous offer indeed! Thankyou. I'm just daunted by phrases like "cut a hole in the roof"! Just what is involved?!

no holes need cutting in the roof mate..you have a bull Censored trim that covers 3 location points in the roof gutter either side of the vehicle....just screw down through these and your rails are in place...shimples!

I recently had LR roof rails fitted at the local LR dealer and the cost... £18 labour charge. I am surprised how little they charge sometimes. Thumbs Up

Then again a piece of LR trim plastic can cost £££'s

I would get the parts from Nick, Pm him "the Large one", parts manager @ Yeovil Landrover, and take Cuzzy up on his offer. Relatively easy job once you have done it, and Cuzzy has.

Dont use a dealer, unless Nick offers a rate to fit too Thumbs Up

Anyone fitted the extended rails yet? Have the standard rails already, but looking for the extra length to get the canoe further forward. If the forward mounting points are already in place, it should be a quick job, but as mentioned elsewhere, I don't fancy drilling holes in the roof!

I'm being quoted the following

Rails - £163.30
Bars - £170.40
Fitting - 1 hour labour £145

It all seems a bit steep to me. The only thing that would make me go with LR is that if the whole lot comes off the roof at 70mph on the M25 and I have a huge pileup, I will have some comeback!
