Looks like a trip to the main Dealer for a cure.
The cable does release the mechanism, sounds as if you have a failed EPB module, your lucky not to get all the noise normally associated with the failureMike

My handbrake jammed on in freezing cold , Garage cut cable and ordered new cable (kit) I am told it will be 3 months for TATA to deliver kits. My 1st Mot is due this means I will be off the road 'till new handbrake kit arrives. Any suggestions anyone ? Thanks.

Why could they not use the well proved technology of a simply spring and cable method via a foot brake is beyond me? I hope that the guy who had designed the EPB has been fired!

Failed EPB
OK so my EPB has just gone
Not happy considering that we have only owned the car for 3 weeks and the garage that we purchased it from are supposed to have completed a pre delivery service / check etc etc...........Yeah right!!
The car is 06 so outside of 3 year warranty so I am reluctant to go to a main stealer, to that end, does anyone know of a good 'private' garage for Disco work?? I am able to take it anywhere between Rugby / Milton Keynes.
I was able to release the EPB by using the technique suggested by XX03 on page 2 of this thread.......so thanks very much for sharing the knowledge. WB

Dear, Dear Gareth,
TFC ALWAYS prefers email rather than PM.
Guys, have been a forum member since 2008. Loads and loads of comment about the EPB worldwide on this forum, and its weakness. Afraid I've just joined those who've had to have the whole kit replaced at my expense because of jamming on of shoes - despite not using the EPB but just leaving the car in 'P', for the last 12 months!''
This seems an ideal candidate for the LR after-market community to design a replacement handbrake assembly which is manually operated, surely. Given the electronic wizardry in the LR3/4 I suspect its this that's the main issue regarding the desgn/manufacture of a replacement - or am I just thinking about this too simply?
I would really like to replace the EPB with a manual set up that uses the original drum/shoes, has manual adjustment......yet is able to 'talk' to the rest of the electronics in the car to provide functional reassurance and operation.
There certainly must be a market, given all of the forum chat and the almost blanket refusal of LR to acknowledge a design problem, or apply consistency to warranty repairs.
Has anyone done this already? Is there anyone likely to do you think?

Had mine looked at annual service today orange/red lights on dash all it needed was adjusting they state that its knowing how to do the adjustment correctly in all the four years its just needed adjustment with dust build up cleaned out and my dealer didn't charge all done part of service,.
At last Landrover have finally got hold of a replacement Electronic Parking Brake Module for my 2008 D3.
It has only taken them since December 2009 to do a "line pinch". 3 phone calls to Customer Services at Landrover finally got some action. The car is now back on the road and all seems to be well. The moral of the story is to make sure that who ever services your D3, services the electronic parking brake at the same time, as not all Landrover dealers appear to have it on their list of jobs to do. I know it's a bit off the subject - but I was reading your message about all the work done to your HSE V8
With respect, could I ask just a couple of questions as my son is thinking of buying a V8 and myself a Diesel
You chose a V8 over the TD2.7 - Why?
How does the fuel economy go with the V8 in the desert - I know you've got a LR tank but I've read a V8 can still empty that pretty quickly in sand and with towing.
With all your lights do you just have duel batteries or triples to run them.
thanks for now

EPB has started screeching after last weekends greenlaning trip to the NE Yorkshire Moors . Screeches when EPB applied frequently(ish), sometimes it comes on with a clunk, then switch off and take the key out of the ignition ... screech ... Out of LR warranty and 4th year extended. Purchased a Warranty Direct top spec cover before LR products ran out and before 2nd MOT and 60k service so wear and tear covered. Oh! and some times (read) frequently the EPB is applied followed by a screech ... then "bing, bing, bing" EPB Failure, hand brake will not release, bollokcs with manual over-ride etc ... Turn off engine, take key out of ignition, return key to ignition ... "bing, bing, bing" system rest and off we go!
Wish I bought the 110 Defender but thought a little bit of comfort in my old age
Trip to LRTV after bank holiday weekend and hopefully easy (cheap) resolve or a phone call to WD and then Club N.E.R.D.s

I have the squeeling followed by fault lights intermittantly. sometimes its fine others it whails like a suffering cat. it always resets after tuning off the engine removing the key etc.
do the shoes just need a scrub? does this have to be a dealer repair? i hate this EPB!! i've already taken to just leaving it in gear when i park and leaving the EPB off
