cannot do this properly without an IDS VCM system
Now also with Faultmate
Already offering lots of capabilities beyond IDS
with more being added almost every other day.

Can someone explain how wheel alignment is done through IDS or faultmate. This is surely a physical alignment, and can only be measured with the use of lasers etc...There is no such thing as bad weather, only the wrong clothes.

As I understand it the dealer/owner/indie puts it into geometry set mode (tight tolerence mode) prior to the pysical alignement which is done by the tyre centre.
It has to do with the self leveling I believe and prevents this from throwing the setting when it is being aligned.“There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

Hi,
Tight tolerance mode is more to do with the air suspension being locked in one particular height postion. This allows a known reference height at which to do the camber, castor & toe. At a different height, the camber, toe etc will be a different value. You obviously still need the physical alignment equipment to check the values on the wheels & then spanners to adjust

Yea thats pretty much what i figured.
Normally the EAS system opens and closes the various corner valves in conjunction with either the reservoir or exhaust valve to add or remove air from each corner and thereby adjust the vehicles current height to match the target heights. However it adopts some latitude and is typically quite happy to attain current heights that are within a couple of mm of the targets.
It does not say as much or at least not that i have found yet, but i recon the close tolerance mode simply makes it have to achieve the exact target height values.
So it simply rules out any error to measurements caused by tolerance in the EAS system.
juging by other aspects in the instructions like the Fuel tank weight bit they are looking to remove as much variation as possible to enhance the accuracy of any measurements and adjustments.

In my honest opinion, you 'll ALWAYS have to do this through the dealer.

I've had mine done my Stratstones. They told me they took my car to "a local specialist" in Basford. Must look them up on t'Interweb - they must be cheaper than shelling out £95
Mind you I got the car back and the bloomin' steering wheel's off to the left now.
Flippin' Eck. I'll draw it to their attention next week.
