D4 Terrain Response - What happend to the Land Rover man ? |
|
Do you remember a while back, it could have been 12 months ago a chap from LandRover came on the forum. I think he was the programme director or technical lead for "terrain response". There was a thread where he asked for our opinions and ideas for improvement of the TR (sorry cant find the thread).
Do we have any knowledge as to whether any of our feedback was taken into account and included in the D4?, or were we treated as customers who dont matter ?? Duncan

The only change I can see is the 'sand launch mode' and the RRS gets a new 'dynamic mode' (maybe D4 as well?). Doesn't look like they changed much else, but maybe the programming is slightly changed?
Is there a site with technical details?

They listened to this suggestion someone made:
Quote:.....I would prefer it if the Terrain Response knob (and the suspension, and transfer box buttons) were set further forward - in front of the gear stick ......

Maybe so Dunc, but I admired the guy for getting his orbs out and putting them on the chopping block in front of a forum full of passionate owners.
He took an awful lot of hassle for the TR system which, let's face it, is simply 'king brilliant. On the few occasions I've relied on it, it's made me look like a pro that I know I'm not.
As a software developer I know it's not easy listening to even constructive criticism from a small group of your peers. To put his head above the parapet in front of a few thousand in order to further improve 'his' product was nothing short of amazing. Insane maybe, but amazing. I have nothing but respect for him and hope he wasn't too damaged by the experience.
I wonder whether LR will allow the process to be repeated; I'm personally not impressed by things built by mass committee as in my experience there's a lot of mileage between what people think would be great and what they actually need and use. I do believe it is a useful step in gauging the more general things that are desired, and I hope they honour us with being invited to participate in the process again. Dr. Ian Malcolm:
"Yeah, but your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should."
Transgenic tomato anyone?
