Hi there, newbie post.
I've just put down the deposit on a Disco 3. It's a 55 plate (registered 06), 43000 miles, automatic, Diesel and is an SE.
I used to own a petrol Disco 2 which I loved but was very thirsty. I can't wait to get my new Disco on Friday but am already dreading the running costs.
Any tips or tricks to keep them down? What should I expect from this vehicle? I'm also getting the windows tinted. Does anyone have any experience of this, is it a good idea?
Thanks

Remember that people only post when they have issues so forums look like a place of doom. Many many people have cars that never go wrong. Not met one yet mind you

Agreed, no-one comes onto a forum and says 'iv had my car a year, and no problems with it'
What it is good for though, is finding easy fixes for common faults, and there is a massive montain of knowledge between all the members here My D3 Build Thread

RupertKE - welcome to the site, good choice on car.
I have an MY06 SE auto, I get about 23mpg but it has not seen a motorway in nearly a year.
I have had mine since 4 months old, don't get me wrong it has spent some time in the dealers but nothing too scary and it was all at the cost of LR, if I had the time the majority I could have fixed with help from here.
Just enjoy it, maintain it and I am sure it will be good to you.

Thanks Guys. Just a thought though. What's the most economical setting for greatest fuel efficiency? High or low suspension? I also assume if you kept it in say Sand Mode it would be less efficient?

don't press the right pedal too hard is the only suggestion for fuel econony
We traded in our two Discovery 300 series V8's for our D3 HSE - brilliant car (loved the D1's also) but the D3 is like night and day.
As for which settings, I believe that the suspension height will return to normal mode (lock access, access, normal, offroad are the options chosable from switch) when driving, i think that above 15mph access mode will turn to normal ride height mode.
The only time the suspension will change when driving normally is over 100mph when vehicle will drop slightly further to aid handling.
Those more in the know will be along to confirm/correct me shortly

Hi, I've just seen that my vehicle has side-steps and no roof rails. Would someone be kind enough to answer the following questions?
Does anyone know if these increase the fuel consumption?
Are they easy to remove?
What is their Second-Hand value?
How expensive and easy to fit are roof rails?
Thanks

Does anyone know if these increase the fuel consumption? Marginal, don't think yoiu'd really notice a difference
Are they easy to remove? Yes, some bolts (although they may be a bit stuck, some WD40 or similar should help) to undo, but not technically challenging.
You'll have holes in your sills, so if selling, get the buyer to swap sills with you (assuming they don't have holes in)
What is their Second-Hand value? anywhere between £100 and £300 depending on condition. New I think are about £350.
How expensive and easy to fit are roof rails? The Large One will be able to give you a forum price, but they're not technically challenging, but you do have to cut the plastic strip on the roof.
