Went back up the B974 again today. Eventually got to the top of the hill (known locally as the Cairn-O-Mount) but I had a snow shuffle with me and it was used a couple of times.
Coming back down a steep ice-covered gradient in low box with my feet off the pedals I found my 300TDi moving faster than the wheels were.....
The instinct is to brake, but I've been playing in Landy's for long enough to know that I had to accelerate in order to regain traction. My passenger (father-in-law) was very impressed but I'm sure I heard a noise from the base of his seat as I hit the right hand pedal
When I get my D3 (only 5 days to go now), I wonder how much of this 'skill' will be lost to electronics???.......

Cruise at 5mph? - I think not!!! Foot off brake pedal? - I think not!!!
At the Winter LRE in Finland last month we were certainly told to keep our feet off the brakes. Maybe braking confuses the HDC. It was nerve-racking first time, as the car accelerated down a steep, snowy slope, but I did what I was told (it wasn't my car ). And, indeed, after the first rush the car slows to a steady pace and descends under control. VERY impressive!
I seem to remember too that we enabled the HDC explicitly. But maybe I'm wrong.
