Can anyone tell me what bits and bobs I will need for fitting an RAI (second hand) ?
Eg what size rivnuts, screws etc.
thanks. The next American ex-pat that calls it a "truck" is going to find out what 2.7 tons feels like on their foot...

You need a spacer for where it bolts to the top of the A post. I think it's 2 M8 rivnuts to go on the wing. When yoiu get it second hand make sure you get the plastic bungs that cover the bolts in the main body.
Takes less than an hour to fit. And that's with me being a numpty and plucking up courage to drill into the front wing HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE

What shoud be a final question on this as I am fitting it on Saturday morning...
Some people have mentioned rubbing etc and have put tape on to protect the paint/body work...
Where is this rubbing? On the wing, pillar or everywhere ? And what are the recommendations for protecting from this - any special tape ?

You will need 3 riv nuts. Stick some tape on to the wing where the RAI touches the paintwork. You will also have to drill out the top of the A pillar trim. Use an M10 nut as a spacer if your kit does not have one. Fitting instructions are available on T web. I think you will need a 9.5 or 9.8 Ø drill bit for the riv nuts. Oh put some copper slip grease on the threads when you fit the RAI. In the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

I fitted mine JF Lux, but it was OEM from the dealer, not secondhand.
Can't remember if I put any protective tape against the bodywork but figured I am not going to remove the RAI except for replacement windscreen, etc.
Link below is to the LR fitting instructions if they help.
(Copy also in my Gallery if you wanted to save the file and print later.

* first ran a bearing (design failure in original engine)
* second had a failure of the water outlet on top of the engine (pls check yours)

I'm sure it was 9.5mm - although the LR instructions say 7.5mm or something like that 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE AutoBuckingham Blue 2007 Golf GT DSG
All sorted - from what I seefrom the replies I'll put tape on the wing.
Everything else I have - including a car that at the moment is driving around with no A-pillar trim and side vent following a practise run last night... The next American ex-pat that calls it a "truck" is going to find out what 2.7 tons feels like on their foot...

Thought that you leased your motor John.
If so, what do you plan doing with the holes you've drilled when you return it? Clubs Mantec, Tasmods, LEDS, AT2s on 18s, Maxxis Bighorns on 17s, Remote FBH, BAS. ReMap, BSS., RLD Personalised SWP., Safari Snorkel, Faultmate, Three Musketeers & MUD

Phil - Two holes in the wing will be the least of my problems when it is time to go back...
In all seriousness (if that is pssible on this forum...) I'll have two choices one being I leave in some blanks/caps. I've also had a word with someone that has done body work before and it won't be that big a job for some filler, primer and colour.
And I have 33 months to come up with another solution... The next American ex-pat that calls it a "truck" is going to find out what 2.7 tons feels like on their foot...
