All Terrain/ Mud Terrain to suit D3 HSE V8, thanks |
|
Hey All,
Recently bought a D3 HSE V8. Having probs with getting proper offroad tyres, it has 255/55/R19's. Has anyone found same prob or over there do you have a larger range. If so what brands?? Have already shafted one of the current low profiles I have in the above size, ie standard issue on the vehicle and want to limit that sort of exposure. ANy thoughts, ideas etc would be greatly appreciated,
Regards

You have a fairly limited set of choices in almost any region. In the UK, Goodyear Wrangler MT-Rs are available in 255/55/19... which are excellent for off-road.

Stevo68,
based on the threads in the forum it would seem most of us in Oz have gone to 17" wheels and tyres for off road use. I personaly got a second set of tyres and wheels in 17' for offroad use and use the 18' around town.

Thanks grommet, I found out about those yesterday and excitedly rang up the local guy here in Brissie ( Aust) and for some reason they have been discontinued , so he is looking into what else may be available.

Thanks also SMK, apparently 17's wont fit on my car, so have dealer looking into whether I can get 18's as there seems to be a bit of a range for 18's. Then option will be as you have mentioned is to have 2 sets of rims which is a . Thanks for the input,

Steve,
I heard the MTR's in this size were never available in Oz. There are plenty of 4WDers with MTRs on their trucks but these are on 15" or 16" rims.
If your tyre dealer can't suggest anything (which will most likely be the case) there is another remote option of getting a set of the D3 18" rims which will fit your V8. If your're lucky and can find a Nitto tyre dealer to get his hands on a set of Nitto Terragrapplers (265/65/18 ) they will just fit.
The guys in the States have been fitting them to the LR3. See this link to a post on LR Chronicles http://lrchroniclepub.proboards29.com/inde...1123744643). There is a limitation with the spare not fitting while inflated and the tow hitch cannot be used.
I had a quick look at Nitto dealers but didn't come up with much except for this Sydney crowd (http://www.tempetyres.com.au/products_inde...Tyre+Range). if you give them a call to find out who is up in Brissy selling Nitto they might be able to tell you if the Nittos can be sourced.
Another option in 18" was the Cooper 275/65/18 but this is really getting too big and the spare cannot fit at all.

This Cooper Tyre is available in Oz - see here http://www.coopertyres.com.au/tyres/stt_new.htm but is 821mm in Diameter and your 19" are about 763mm in Diameter.
Your options are limited but unless you can import a set o MTRs then I think 19" in Australia will be impossible at this point in time. LR Aust didn't think anyone would use their D3 V8 with 19" wheels off-road

Thanks Chris, had a look at the posts and will make a few calls. Yeah imagine that, taking a 4WD offroad Seems like a common prob so hopefully a smart tyre supplier will look into getting something available. Will let you know how I go,
