Old thread I know, rather than start a new one on the same subject - does anyone know the state of play of Roych Clough at the moment? and any other 'lanes of interest' in the vicinity?
I've tried doing a wider internet search but there's nothing in the last ten years of note.

Definite blast from the past, drove that lane once in around 2007 in my first Land Rover - 2001 FL1 3 door TD4 Auto which performed brilliantly2011 D4 XS 305 MY12 - gone but not forgotten

They, along with all the Mickie Dees wrappers were all well strapped down as ISTR that was a bit of a roller coaster drop, just with big blocks.

We used to drive RC and Chapel Gate many years ago. We had a forum camping weekend based in Edale. There is video and photos of Disco 3’s ascending Chapel Gate and Roych Clough. The only thing that stopped them was the width of the gates!
Sadly all closed now with permanent tro. There are a few lanes left in the Peaks, but not enough to keep my interest in Green Laning going. Shame. 😔

Thanks for that, I last drove it in April 2012, there were snowdrifts across some of the initial steps which were 'challenging' at times - you can see the issue starting to appear in this photo...
It didn't look too bad from here
Made it through without having to use the winch (just), the rest of the lane was not too bad once going uphill.

To be honest, I'm quite pleased these routes are being closed down. Whilst they may be classified as roads, they were never used by 4x4s / enduro bikes until recently. The damage vehicles and the one Life brigade have done to so many old and ancient routes is depressing. Having to use a winch to reverse the route says it all, it's not for for cars / motor vehicles.
I'm sorry if you feel I'm a party pooper spoiling your fun testing the off raid capability of your Discoveries, but that's life. The majority of these byways were traversed by people, horses, carts and cattle, not three tonne trucks.New Defender L663 110 SE (known as Noddy!)

I remember reading somewhere - possibly on here, that when Stannage edge was permanently closed to traffic, the bobblies actually caused more erosion due to wandering over a wider area than when there were definite, constrained routes created by the wheeled traffic.

Part of the problem is people who trick up their old Defenders and then have to go off piste to find stuff that's challenging. If they left the vehicle as standard, they'd find plenty of challenging stuff without having to wreck the countryside. It's ironic, really.Visiting from rrsport.co.uk
