Lookers Chelmsford and I thought it was just me |
|
bought my 06 disco 3 from there ex demo hse fully loaded paid top dollar for it and have been sadly disappointed with attitude of Chelmsford since then... they seem to take the view if you can afford a £40k carthen you can afford to pay top dollar to service it...UH NO this was a treat ot myself when business was good...sometime back in 08 I seem to remember:) !!!!
I only use Chelmsford as a real last resort but would dearly love to find a good main dealer elsewhere who I can trust won't try and rip me off at every warranty recall??
I use an excellent Indy guy who has looked after my discos mk 1 2 and this 1 he is ex LR senior tech, local and always uses genuine parts or will offer quality pattern parts if you are not bothered. He is always good value and there is not much he doesnt know about LRs, so much so a few of the main dealers use him for diagnostic works.
Happy to pass on his details if anyone wants?

Wife takes Disco3 down on said date, no courtesy car.And then we get the usual phone call....."Madam, your rear brake pads are 90% worn"etc etc.(We had the fronts done by an indi a couple of months back, and the rears were checked and were O.K at 50% worn). So I call them and ask why they are trying to scare my wife."Well thats what our technician is saying"+ " have you done any towing lately etc"+"or changed your driving style"!!!!!. ( I won't print my reply here)To their astonishment we told them not to do the brakes. They then bring the car back without a copy of the bill,we pay anyway to find they'd charged us 12 quid to change a rear light bulb.
Never ever again.
P.S. To put my mind at rest, first thing I did after getting Disco back was to pop back to the indi to double check the rear pads again. Guess what? Yep, still only 50% worn............
A year on and I've just used "10forcash" instead of the above shower. For as long as we keep the car he'll be getting our work. After he had pointed out some warranty bits needing attention the car was booked in for last friday at the premises of the bunch of incompetents above. At 5pm, the car gadn;t been started on, no call no apology and no offer to bring the car back. Eventually get the car back sat lunchtime, no warranty bits done, no recall bits done. After wasting a day and a half of our time, it's now booked in again. An utter utter shower.

Our F2 gets serviced by them as its on contract and bought through them. However, as an example of their "skill" on our last F2 they replaced the FBH under warranty and forgot to put the car back together properly. We had to get LR Assist out to cable tie bits of engine in place over the weekend until we could get it back to them! Equally the F2 servicing does seem to be ok and I check the reports they give on tyres, brake discs/pad wear etc and they are ok (i.e. not taking the ). And they pick up and will drop you at the station, which helps the other half. However having to take the car back cos they couldn't do it properly is hassle we don't need.
We had an F1 new from them and they completely up the 1st service, which left the car with a potential blow out. The service people refused to even apologise. So not all roses!
I'm afraid, to be blunt, the service desk (as has been said earlier) has no idea about customer service. I used to work in retail for several major chains, and I've seen managers demoted on the spot for less than the "attitude" the service desk gives out. There also seems to be a communication disconnect between the service desk and workshop, and a lack of adequate quality control sometimes (see above!).
I'm convinced that we haven't had too many problems with them as 1) the F2's seem reliable and aren't as complex as a D3 etc, so less issues arise 2) we are a regular purchaser of cars from them. May just be good luck tho!
If its not brand new (and possibly even if its brand new) get TFC to service it and for other straightforward repairs get a good competent mechanic who knows the cars to do it. I have a mate in Little Braxted (near Witham), who does nothing but LR's, and looks after FFRR's, D3's etc. He's worked on all my LR's for the last 12 years or so. PM if you want details.
BTW I still get parts from Lookers Chelmsford - the parts guys are really helpful despite the best efforts of the management
Bottom line - IMHO if you didn't buy the car from them and its not brand new I'd probably go elsewhere. They are not interested (and never have been) in enthusiasts (if they were they might be like their Park Royal cousins and get on here to get some real feedback!). You can't even get a sales brochure and price list unless you convince them you are loaded and about to buy! I've had dealings with them for 15 years now and they've never changed, despite moving site etc.
However if you are quite bling you might be ok!! Tony

They've just had it revamped - the service desk is now at the far right side of the showroom with a big Range Rover logo over it, bigger than the LR logo. I guess they are expecting the new Evoque! Tony

Had the service recall done in December and told them I would like a lift to the station. Got there at 8:00am and queued to hand in keys - asked where to go for lift and was told that they'd already gone !
Same team had to come back from station after dropping one person and then take me before they could go our on their collections.
Car was to be completed that day, even if brake servo was to be changed (and it did need to be) and at 5pm they tell me that it isn't finished and can be collected next day.
Couldn't pick it up as we only have one car so the two blokes who do the collecting brought it back mid morning.
Have been a few times for parts due to the 20% discount card but can't bring myself to pay for the refurbishment with their extortionate prices.
MOT tomorrow at Ongar Bridge who do my emergency problems (purchased from them) but TFC for regular servicing etc
Please have a look at the Events as we are trying to have a meet up and possibly a day out off roading

They were also selling Spare Wheel Protectors in the parts dept at £135 each
Glad I went to RLD! Less than half the price, and from what I could see not as good - didn't appear to have fabric edge cover etc. Although it was covered by large sheet with price on. Tony
