Transmission Fault

I was wondering where the OBD2 port was on the Discovery 3

I want to have a look with my scanner

Its also coming up on the screen with "Transmission Fault ~ Limited gears available" can this be sorted just with a normal scanner or does it need a trip to Land Rover

The car is currently damaged so I need to repair it before it can go anywhere,My problem is loading it on the trailer etc. if it has problems

Matt

Front end damage and the airbags have deployed?

The engine runs though but I havnt tried to move it as i had the transmission fault

Ive been looking on a few forums and it says a normal scanner wont pick everything up and is very limited to what can be done

I need the dealer software so im lead to believe

Ahh i see.

Its hard for me to advise about the fault with the damage, there are some CAN wires in the front end, if they are damaged this could be the cause of the trans fault.

I think you do need to find a dealer type tool to read the faults.
I dont think the normal scan tool will pick up what you are looking for but i may be wrong.

Id be intrested in your findings if you resolve the problem.
If you get stuck finding an indepenant to take a look at it give me a call.

Regards Pete

Thanks Pete i may ring you in the morning

It isnt a hard impact on the front,It looks like the D3 hit a post as the crash bar has hit the air con rad but they still hold water

Where abouts are the CAN wires located?

HI
There are many wires in a loom across the front of the car, i repaired one a year or so back and it had damage to the loom and it causes a weird and wonderfull aray of faults.

If i remember rightly it was along the bottom of the front behind the bumper, its been a while so i forget exactley where.

Aslo to be noted if the bags have gone of as you say it will store "crash" data in the srs ecu and send comms to the engine ecu, this will also need repairing but cant be done untill the bags have been replaced or emulated.

Ill pm you my mobile number as im at another garage tomorrow taking a TDV8 out of a FFRR but please call if you want some info ill do my best to help.

Regards Pete

Im only in Scunthorpe so im not to far away if i need to come and see you

I had a brain wave while looking for diagnostic equipment

The Mitsubishi assistance package that look after my L200 also look after Land Rover so im going to give the friendly technician a call tomorrow and ask him to pop across with his diagnostic equipment

The car should still drive with crash data stored though as it can't stop the veichle moving totally.

I know on most cars the SRS unit has to be changed along with the airbags but some can be reprogrammed to work again as the codes can be cleared is this the case with the D3

How bad was the damage to the one you repaired?

The one i worked on was dead then a new chassis added etc etc so was a full rebuild.
yes it will run and drive with crash data.

It may after a read/errase on some common faults pop back ino life, only plugging in will tell.
It could be something very simple thats causing it.

Regards Pete
